Nothing more to say. Berrettini will win 11 games total and will meekly fold like he did at Wimbledon. He hasn't the tools, variety, mental strength or belief to beat Novak. His BH will be relentlessly attacked and he'll start spraying UE's within 5 minutes.
Not only that. He's playing worse in the UsOpen than he was at Wimbledon. He has been trash this whole tournament with UFEs and fitness issues. He could have lost his last match, had his opponent not been compromised with injury.

On any given day a player can win that you wouldn't expect would win- so who knows? That is why they play. They don't win every single match or every single tournament.

As much as I'm nervous for Djokovic this tournament I'm 100% confident that he will be ready and can win the CYGS. I think it's his destiny. I don't believe in such things but I know Novak does and that's all that matters. He needs to believe in himself and he does.
Only thing that can take him out is a redlining Berrettini that's redlining for 3+ hours. Bases on his fitness issues I doubt that will happen.

I don't have my hope very high. Zverev and Medvedev look fresh while Novak looks tired.
He took a trade-off between Tokyo and Cincy and now needs to face the consequence.

I can never understand how no-backhand Berrettini is even a minor threat to Novak. He’s literally got no BH, keeps running around his BH to hit forehands, but lacks the movement to compensate for his compromised court positioning.

He is NOT a threat to a smart player like Novak and will NEVER be. Give a ball to the backhand - point over.

Djokovic hasn't faced any TOP-50 opponent in NY this year, let's see how he'll manage it.
I think some people underrate Berrettini. He has a game to show resistance, two sets won against Djokovic in Paris and London confirm that.
Berrettini has been extremely patchy since Wimbledon, though.

I really hope Berrettini digs in deep and has the match of his life today. I know he can do it, the question is always will he? Anything can happen in tennis.

This is one of the ways the top three have dominated. Djokovic is guaranteed a slow court, if not centre court most of the time, which is the slowest.
Place him on the faster outer courts where everyone else has had to play, make him play a full schedule, and he's out in the second round.

Mark this post, too lazy to create a thread:

-Djokovic will have the scare of the tournament here.

-Djokovic will win (I actually want to say Matteo would but I trust Djokovic's ability to accept and solve a surprising situation and Matteo's ability to choke. )

Djokovic ain't ready for Berretini this time. His shot tolerance is not exactly what it used to be.He has lost sets due to rust. And Berretini has faced him enough this year to come up with some surprise. I have a feeling Djokovic is a little more focused on SF-F and underestimating Berretini.

Meanwhile Matteo must be inspired to do better against him this time.

Another tough match for Djoko. He will need to be sharper from the start. Berrettini maybe not at his Wimbledon or clay form but he’s still a dangerous opponent with the big serve and FH. It will be another close one and I feel will go at least 4 sets maybe 5. I hope Novak can keep his dream alive but have big respect for the Italians game and personality.

Stop spreading propaganda and conspiracy theories. They always adjust regardless of surface and conditions.

This is my only concern to my straight sets prediction. I didn't understand why Novak practiced with Berry after the draw came out. It's not something you do with your main rivals. Even Sloane and Madison called theirs off after they saw they'd be playing in the first round and they are good friends. You don't want to give rivals ANYTHING.

Probably just smoke, though.

When coaches make statements like this -it flies in their face. LOL at saying they have tricks up their sleeves.
Novak is NOT a chump - he is an ATG. He will thrash this Italian MUG silly.
Matteo has no backhand and pathetic movement. In any other era this overrated player would not even be in the top 30. And on top of that this coach is playing mind games. Wait for Novak to destroy him.

The trouble is even if Novak wins if it is in 5 tough sets i cannot see him recovering in time to then take out both Zverev and Danii back to back as they both have much easier routes so far.

Novak has to win of course, but i also think to really have genuine chance of achieving his dream then he will need to win in no more than 4 sets.

What i find it pretty disappointing is that Djokovic gets another night match. For us Europeans, who can't stay up all the night,it's pretty tough to see much of Djokovic this tournament. The only thing i saw live of Djokovic was his match against Nishikori.

Berrintini will get a set but Djokovic in 4 seems the obvious outcome here. I hope Djokovic gets it done in 3 with most likely Zed and Med back to back he needs to save energy

Yeah it’s only right too. He is the main star and going for history.
There is so much stacked against him, from the draw (way harder relatively to anyone else), the timing of matches, and playing days. Idc what anyone says, Zverev looks unbeatable right now. I'm not seeing the same forehand and service errors as before. I hope it doesn't last, but that looks unlikely. I know he's largely played bums, but if you're fresh and the guy on the other side of the net is even slightly fatigued, you can make up the difference in play.

I not sure Djokovic makes the final this time. I think he beats berrettini but wouldn’t surprise me if Zverev beats Novak again. Still he will give it his all and can never count Novak out but yeah it’s a tough draw and less recovery time. It’s gonna be very tough.

So he has to beat Berrettini, Zverev and Med in half a week? 2011/2015 Djokovic maybe, but now? Not seeing it.

He beat Berra, Nadal in RG (toughest task in HISTORY of tennis), then Titspas back to back.
This one would be easier. There is NO Nadal.

Yes but he has so little rest now and playing late in the night. Zod and Med are more fresh.
True. But Novak is a an ATG. Some would say he is the GOAT. Cometh the hour, cometh the Champion. I expect him to raise a notch and beat these 3 to complete the CYGS.

I watched both times Novak played Sascha in GS - 2019 FO (straights) and 2021 AO (tight, "exhausting" 4 set match). I didn't feel anywhere near as threatened by Sascha then as I do now. He looks different. Like @TennisFan3 always says, we'll see if he can bring the same level vs Novak, or if Novak learned from their last encounter. I can't imagine him maintaining this streak, but even if that's the case and he gets past Zverev, he has to do it in a way where hes not out of gas for the final, bc Medvedev will be ready to run him ragged. He'd be the night SFs again, so a match over 3 hours is just going to widen the freshness disparity...Yeah, I'm going to be salty at the draw Gods if Med or Zverev win playing bums the whole way to the SFs/F.

Come on Felix, you can do it!!! lol.

Very true, but also much earlier in the season with less cumulative miles and less pressure relatively speaking.
Also, lol @ Titspas
Also, love how we've already moved on from this match XD

Good post. And what if FAA beats Med? That could happen as well. In that case it becomes more of a gimme.

Great post. We just need FAA to pull the upset over Med.
Also Zverev reported has a back injury and that could flare up in the SF as well.

Zverev was returning just as well in Australia. His serve is better now, but his baseline game is probably only marginally better. He redlined to beat Novak in Tokyo. But Novak is looking vulnerable as well. He will definitely need to step it up.
