Previous slam match :- Sinner defeated Zverev at French open 2020 round of 16 by 6-3 6-3 4-6 6-3
Coming into this match :- Zverev defeated Jack sock in round of 32 by 3-6 6-2 6-3 2-1 (retirement by sock), whereas Sinner defeated Gael monfils in the same round by 7-6 6-2 4-6 4-6 6-4.

My thoughts :- if its a night match then sinner can take advantage and probably even win it in 4 or 5 sets. Though zverev will still be favorite.
If its a day match then I can see sinner going down in 4 or even 3 straight sets. Zverev is more favorite in day match than in night match.

Okay everyone.
Goodnight once again.
See you all soon.

Edit 1 minute after the match :-

MY PREDICTION HOLDED UP PERFECTLY FINE EVERYONE.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MYSELF.

What an ugly thread title lol

The match of the fourth round for sure, at least on paper. The outcome depends on Zed's serve, if it's clicking he'll win in 4 most likely but if not then Sinner has a chance. Hope they make it another epic five-setter.

95% sure it will be a day match. No way the world #1 against an American won't be in Night Session. Plus Djokovic already had a day match today, he won't have 2 in a row. Zverev-Sinner probably the 2nd match (around 2 p.m.) UNLESS they put Opelka on Ashe and Zverev on the Armstrong Night Session but that's unlikely.

I think USTA wants to split their two home boys so Djok vs Brooksby is a d’oh for Ashe night, making Zed vs Sinner the Ashe day and Opelka vs Harris the day Armstrong and then Berry vs Otte the night Armstrong match.

With that wicked high ball toss, Zed may struggle if he’s looking into a cloudless sky midday. The sun does return on Monday after an overcast Sunday. Advantage negated somewhat.

As much as I’m a dedicated Sinner, there’s a reason the odds will favor Zed when they are posted tomorrow. Heart says Jannik in 4; mind says Zed in 4.

You're probably right, but why in the world would the put Berry vs Otte on Ash at night?

Sorry, Armstrong at night. I just don't get why they would put that as their night match when they have a choice between another American and two up-and-comers?
Because they want to split their kids up for the two sessions. Remember that Monday is a national holiday so having an American (Opelka) as part of it would make folks happier. Besides, Berry is a top 6 seed and previous SFist. Opelka is #22 and playing unseeded Harris. Had Shapo moved into that slot instead of Harris it might have gotten night prime time.

Bit hard for Sinner to get Sock's level kind of serves overnight, don't you think?

Not the serves, more the way he was bullying Zverev with his forehands in the first set. Obviously, Sinner doesn't have the RPMs, because he hits it a lot flatter, which should be effective on this faster surface. And I think he can pull Zverev wide a lot because he has a great backhand, in addition to his forehand (Sock only has a forehand). I agree that the Sock serve was setting it up for him, but remember that he broke Zverev, too. Sinner can do the same, but he cannot hit it down the center of the court. Zverev's movement is too good for that.

Yeah, Sinner's a real world beater. He's won three minor events in his career.

Just like Zverev, being pushed around by a player whose ranking dropped so far down, you couldn't see it at sea level. I like Sock, but isn't Zverev the 4th best player in the world right now?

Yeah...but if you two Americans at night on a holiday weekend, with the crowd already pumped, it could play well with the TV crowd. Besides, a lot of casual fans love servefests.

Zverev will win this much easier than expected. Sinner’s serve is going to allow Zverev comfort in return games and he’ll cruise to victory.

Zverev in 3/4.

Yeah, that's what I fear will happen, but there's always hope...

He broke Zverev only once. Sock hit some outrageous shots in that game. Zverev has faced only 1 breakpoint (which he lost in that 1 game against Sock) so far in 3 matches!

Zverev will have plenty of chances on Sinner's weak serve. Unless Zverev is having a particularly bad serving day, he should win this match quite easily (even more so if the match is played early).

That's all you need, unless you have to retire. The point is Sock was in control, and then he was injured. Sinner can also control the rallies.

Zverev didn't impress versus Sock, which was embarassing. Hope he gets serious versus Sinner.

The match has been confirmed as the day game. I think this should favour Zverev even more. If he serves like he did against Vinolas (which was also a day game), Sinner has no chance

I voted Zverev in 4 because he looks to be playing well and Sinner is an overrated mug with no serve whose best surface is clay.

Also I wonder what it's like having Dinner with Sinner? (sorry had to say that rhyme)

Sure, Sinner is an overrated 20 year old clay courter. He's only won 3 hard court titles in the past year, 1 of which was a 500 level just a couple weeks ago, and has made the finals of a hard court M1000 at the of March.

He's done nothing at slam level though which is what matters.

Sinner versus Alcaraz is the final tennis deserves, but we are most likely going to witness yet another Djokovic versus Medvedev.

Sinner vs. Auger-Aliassime, would be great, too...but those are the finals TTW needs, not the final it deserves.

And who are you, the proud lord said,
That I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
That's all the truth I know.
A head of gold or a head of red,
A lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
As long and sharp as yours....

Sock found lightning in a bottle and redlined for one set. He has home run power in that forehand side and played possessed for 20 minutes until his obvious lack of fitness reared its ugly head. But Sock was never going to sustain that level for much longer. Zverev playing the day match on a hot sunny day tomorrow vs Sinner I can’t see him losing. Most likely a 3 setter for Zed. He’s in a zone these last few months.

Last year, Sinner was the youngest quarterfinalist in the men's singles at the French Open since your boy Djokovic in 2006.

Speaking of Djokovic, at the exact same age that Sinner is now, Novak had played nine Slams, with one QF at the French, one 4th round at Wimbledon, and one 4th round at the US Open. He also had four 250 level titles and got his breakthrough win with the Miami M1000 just before he turned 20. In this way, Sinner has had very comparible results at a parallel age, winning the Next Gen Championships, two 250 level titles, a 500 level title, and making the finals of the Miami M1000, while also making the QF of the French and the 4th round of the US Open this year. I'm not saying that Sinner is the next Djokovic, but he is showing similar promise as an up and coming contender as Novak did at the same age. It would have been silly to write off Djokovic as just a mug back then, even though he was having issues with his fitness in long matches at the time... just like it would be silly to write off Sinner right now when he's been performing well at such an early stage, despite having an underdeveloped serve.

As for the Zverev match, he and Sinner have a 1-1 head to head record. Sinner beat him in the French in 4 sets last year, but Zverev has been playing very well since the Olympics. Therefore, I think Zverev is the favorite to win, but Sinner definitely has a legitimate chance at an upset. For me, this is the match I'm most looking forward to tomorrow. And that's despite being an American and having two American men playing in other 4th round matches.

I guess we need ATP to cancel all play but the slams and M1Ks then. Make it a 17-week schedule. Who needs minor tournaments like even the 500s (Washington)? Disappointing post from a veteran tennis person, BF. You should know better about the rich tradition at Washington with a champions list that includes 15 different slam titleists, including your squeeze Lendl twice.
