A few days ago it did sound unusual to me that Zverev kept putting emphasis on having a great life now, like he was trying to mask something.
He would be lying if he said his life is great. I think his life is miserable and the latest article of the gossip journalist must be on his mind and affecting his game. This girl must really hate him and has been successful so far in destroying his reputation and his career (assuming he’s innocent).

I'm more confident of his chances. Brooksby has no weapons that can hurt Djokovic, and he might be physically compromised given the 5 setters and injury timeout for his hip. I think that will be an easy on for Novak. I don't believe in Otte or Berrettini for the upset in the next round. From the beginning of the tournament, Zverev was always the guy that had the best chance to keep Djokovic from the final, but Zed's performance today didn't inspire me.

Bottom line, unless there is an injury, it looks like a Djokovic vs Medvedev final.
Yeah you make good points. We will find out soon but whatever happens it’s been a great ride for Djokovic and us fans. I truly never expected this amount of success in the slams this year. You can never count Djokovic out and he’s the ultimate warrior and champion win or lose.

After careful (wishful  ) analysis, I have come to the conclusion that Bencic and Zverev are winning the US Open this year.

Written in the stars!
  1. Childhood friends
  2. Tennis Europe Masters Champion U14 at the same time (former winners include Nadal, Clijsters, etc)
  3. Junior Number 1 at the same time
  4. Won Olympic gold at the same time.

Only fitting that they both win their first Slam together. They are both playing decently. (Bencic winning would be easier)

Zedrot on court interview: "I don't have a GF, I cuddle with my gold medal at night." -- Pretty good humor from him.
When asked where his medal is now he could also have looked under his shirt and then say: "Thought it was on one of those I chains I wear."

Serve clinic

17 aces, 2 DF's

Yes, and this is what makes this such a big win for Zverev. He had way too many UEs, and no way should he have won in straights. But he did mostly because of the serve...the weapon that so often produced DF-fests at big moments. He was very impressive in the tiebreak...serving 1st-serve bombs when down 1-4 and keeping the pressure on Sinner. One DF would've lost the set.

Yep, Sampras tended to cruise and just lift his game enough at the end of sets. And of course the huge 2nd serve.
You don't get the sarcasm.
Sampras was one of the most clutchest players ever and would be the last guy to hit a double fault in crucial moments.
His first serve was better than Zverev's is, and don't even get me started on second serve please.

The seeds have held up making it more difficult for Novak. I think we less confident about Novak’s chances due to the tough route and in this slam things go awry more often than not compared to Wimbledon or Australia. I just hope Novak can keep his focus. Are you more or less confident about Djokovic chances now he’s reached his bogey round of 16?

Well, it would be weird if Novak only was to face players ranked #50-150, which has been the case in the first 4 rounds.

Berrettini is no problem for Novak; just roar real loud if he makes good shots and he will shrink :)

What do you think the limit is for a player of such limited and incomplete dimensions?
Top 7-ish, regular semis-quarters at Slams, but he'll get bullied by the other next-gen, once they mature. Bullied. And once injuries, realization of his own limits start kicking in, he'll drop below the top 7. People act as though he lives in a vacuum and fail to realize how much talent there is on the tour. The ATP tour is brutal.

Seriously. It's annoying when rumors are spread without proof.
Lot of rich successful men are targeted by women. There is a legit 50%+ chance that the woman was FLAT OUT lying.
Stop trivialising abuse especially when there is convincing evidence that it happened. She is not "flat out lying". That's what Zverev is doing by claiming that he "won the case in court". There are loads of corroborating evidence from others, injury marks, verifiable sequence of events. Z is definitely a shady dude with lots to hide. I am not too keen on watching Djokovic get the CYGS tbh, but I would happily watch that unfold than a D-bag like Z go anywhere near a slam.

Its a pity Zverev lost to Thiem in last year's Final, I feel Zverev just needs to get over the hump and then he'll win about 3 slams per year during his prime.
Only Nadal gets slam draws to unfold and provide paths without a top 10 opponent. Joe Kovic was trying for a softie but it looks like he’ll only get through four rounds of fluff.

Let the legal authorities of the concerned people's country decide it. Till then we absolutely stand no right to ruin Zverev's reputation. Its like applying a bad stain to somebody's fresh white cotton shirt. No matter however you wash it afterwards it won't go away completely, will leave its shadows. Just like that, even if Zverev comes out totally innocent his stain will never go away.
And in this case, the reality is as clear as the message of prophet (peace be upon him), the woman doesn't want even to approach legal authorities where you actually have to prove your case to defame someone and get them punished. She rather approached the easy media trials' way, where you can speculate basically anything controversial About anyone famous, even flat out lies, play a victim card & get sympathy by being from so called "oppressed" group and get that person easily defamed, ruined & punished (mentally & psychologically which is more than a physical or economical punishment) to justify false ego and wicked pleasure of ruining someone's reputation and life.

Almost the entire #metoo movement was the same.

No, they have to report on it now, and they have to come up with a failsafe if Zverev's case or Basilashvili's case ends up going south.

You can't just ignore these types of allegations. Should we review them carefully? Yes, but don't ignore them.

I definitely agree. I'm so torn because it's difficult to root for him now. I get that rich and famous guys are targeted. Hypocrisy that I see is that women would do anything to show off on Instagram how happy they are and making others think less of their lives. Only after the break-up we hear "he was a monster, he beat me".

Total hogwash! Even if it was just one predator removed from circulation it is worth it, Instead people like you were in position to end long chains of aberrant behavior in the cases of Jeffrey Epstein, Dr. Larry Nassar and Harvey Weinstein but chose to be silent and willing to allow the abuse to continue by not believing the victims.

I now completely understand @Nuclear Warhead . Sinner had two of the easiest shots of the entire match and absolutely choked on both, handing Zverev a straight sets win in which he never really upped his level beyond 'decent'.
Well, to be honest, even Djokovic misses quite a lot of easy shots. Sometimes it has nothing to do with 'choking', but a lot to do with a momentary lack of focus, or being too eager to finish the point ASAP.

Djokovic doesn't miss SPs to stay in the match, usually.
