Hall of Fame
The American youngster Jenson Brooksby of Sacramento, California to play the World #1 Novak Djokovic in the second week of the US Open.

In front of his crowd and under the lights of AA Stadium he's got the chance to make history, can he end Djokovic's bid for the CYGS?

Can Djokovic end his R4 curse at the US Open?

Is Brooksby is where CYGS ends destined to be included in TTW's museum?

Vote and discuss.

Whats all the fuss about him on this forum? Still didnt have a chanse to watch him, is he any good?

I would like for the OP to change the poll and include Brooksby in 3, 4 or 5. I am predicting Brooksby, not sure how many sets though. I think: 5.

Will he have anything left in the tank after today's match?

Seriously, Brooksby in the fourth round makes me shake my head. I mean, his game is so . . . ordinary. There's nothing about it that says second week of a Slam to me. Plus, I can't in good faith cheer on anyone on "Team 10-minute Toilet Break Whenever I Lose a Set" Club.

I would have tuned in to watch Aslan play Djokovic . . . but I'll pass on this big time. I feel bad for how hostile might be to Djokovic, but he a grown man. I hope he wallops him.

Brooksby is only 20yo and 2 months ago he wasn't even top-200, most of his points are from the Newport final and the Washington semi. Pretty sure it was the first time he got past the 1st round in a slam. That means he isn't used to big, long BO5 matches. His last 2 matches were long and intense... he just played 13 sets in 3 matches. 2 long 4 sets and 5 sets today. That may be too much for him. Plus I heard he took MTOs and might be injured. Will he even play the match? If he does he could be exahusted.

The match against Karatsev was very inconsistent. He was up 6-2 3-1 and lost 5 games in a row. 3rd set, he was up 2-0 and lost SEVEN games in a row. Was down 2-3 in the 4th until Karatsev collapsed. A lot ups and downs from both players.

I haven't seen much of his game, tbh. But he diesn't seem to have weapons to hurt Djokovic. Ok serve but not one that should give too many him easy points. Consistent from the baseline but no strong shot...he should lose most long rallies. Karatsev would've been more dangerous, no doubt. I expect a straight set win, with maybe 1 difficult set. 4 sets if Djokovic is generous and donates one, but after today's match I doubt he drops another set.

Haven't watched much of him but he has a nice game to watch and annoying grunts.
He has a nice game? What the hell have you been smokin?

I'm wondering if this could turn into a similar match like that one Novak had with Simon in Australia the one year though. Scary to think about. lol

I think Jenson will annoy Novak just enough to steal a set, but will still roll over in 4 quite easily a la Nishikori

These will likely be the most hostile conditions for Djokovic for the rest of the tournament for him, however long he is still is in it. It is going to be a night match, it was already stated during Novak's match with Kei, that the remaining of Novak's matches will all be late starts.

Novak knows what is coming, so it is not going to be as straightforward as it may look. A lot will depend on Novak's ability to shut the crowd out.

That’s good news. Especially as it prepares him for the tougher battles ahead.

Brooksby will induce some discomfort for a set for ENS tm (Earth’s Neediest Superstar) but form will hold in three sets, one of them a crooked number.

I will send Brooksby my DVD of the Serve Doctor’s great tutorial on the only stroke in tennis you control 100% of outcome and the one he has that rivals GSG for pure fugliness.

FFS I really don’t want to have to cheer for Brooksby along my drunk compatriots on Monday. I have found his behavior this Open extremely irksome. Will be at this match though, hoping for the night session under the lights. Unfortunately Brooksby has no serve and it may be over quick.

Well, if Novak the error machine shows up, Brooksby gets a set. Say what you will about Novak, but unlike pretty much any other player, he has been the greatest at righting the ship mid-match in history. That may be his most GOAT-worthy quality, and I chalk it up to sheer stubbornness and arrogance: "...this guy is not beating me."

It would be the greatest tennis upset ever. But since Djokovic is better than this guy on every stroke, better physically and better mentally. No way Brooksy

I seriously think in some matches this year he let himself get down a set or two to test his comeback. Sounds far fetched but remember Musetti at FO?
Tsitsipas had him too but Novak knows when to turn it on. The guy is a true terminator.
He has 20 slams but so many of the final or semi matches could have gone either way. So, the guy is lucky too. Just like Fed won 2 Wimbledon's from Roddick that he could have easily lost.

I’m not sure he’ll give them an opportunity to really get into the match. Gonna blitz Brooksby before half of them have even sat down with their beer.

He's a 20-year old in R4 of the US Open. That's something special, right? I think he's very good. His strokes are weird but not to the extent of Medvedev. I like him.

Brooksby is a decent tennis player but gets too pumped up easily and although young, has already started showcasing some dirty little tricks. Selective prolonged grunts that are meant to confuse the opponent. Fake medical timeouts. Long toilet breaks... Pretty cocky character too. Not sure that he can put up a consistent level of play for more than a set or two. It should not be too difficult for Djokovic to win this match.

So, anyone a little disappointed this is the matchup? Does anyone give Brooksby an actual chance? I like his variety and stamina from the baseline, but I don’t think Djokovic is going to be awed by the angles and 2-handed drop shot the way a Taylor Fritz was.

That serve is just a mess though. Djokovic will basically be able to get into all of Brooksby’s service games and get to deuce or BP whenever he feels like it. Of course Novak might just be below par but that’s a separate story.

Have a feeling this one may turn out to be routine, but would love to be proven wrong. I’ll be in Ashe tonight, show some pride Jenson and put on a show. Or else.

He got to the second round of the 2019 USO, almost to the third round before Basilashvili dismissed him.
Yes, he sent the great Tomas Berdych into retirement by the pool with GOAT wife Ester (she won in a 5th set TB with Brooklyn Roddick).
