I think the crowd has been pretty fair today. They are rooting for their home boy of course but they did respect Novak though and give him his due when he played good points.
They were also fair during the Nishikori match but he didn't do the heart celebration

Better excuse than I didn’t realize I had to cut out the bagels and I can’t keep my stuff in my pants so I had to fire my team and replace them with a self-help guru. Just sayin’.
How about no excuses. no more “but the foot”, “but mono”. Players play and you have winners and losers

if Nadal is too injured to play he can always retire. It if he’s playing it’s because he’s ready

Just got back home and looked at the scores.
Can someone please tell me in a line or two how Brooks managed to win the first set,
and so convincingly, and then basically die after that?
#SoulSteal

That kind of negates the weak era since players are competitive.
Lol it just means Djokovic is 34. The fact that he's still outlasting them all only hammers down the point.

Kudos to Djokovic for pulling this one off despite the slow start and kudos to Brooksby for the fight, played a great match. I haven't watched much of him but I'm impressed.

You get Novak fans to stop treating 2011 like some magical cut off when tennis was discovered and I’ll get Rafa fans to never mention his injuries.

Meanwhile pigs will fly before either happens

What a garbage match. This whole tournament has been such a let down. Watching Novak just mop up the slams after his competitors are well past their prime in broken bodies. Looks like robot tennis is all we have left for the foreseeable future.
Nishikori and Brooksby actually forced him to play pretty good tennis. The rest of the draw outside of Novak’s has been awesome. Ten times more entertaining than Wimbledon (sadly, as Wimbledon is my favorite major).

Lol your common sense comment says you are a little broken hearted which prob doesnt take much
Fritz and Karat where playing well with more competitive time on the court of recent than Nole.

You lack a certain amount of neurons to thing consecutive 5 set matches as a droner
will not affect anyone later in the tournament. How many players have beaten Nadal
only to be mentally fried for their next match? even my 9 year old knows this.
Remember the past 5 setters of the greats does not change the fact this is a different game
in homogenized conditions at a level those past greats wouldnt even make the qualies.

Look at BrooksB he is still pushing Nole very well but previous long matches are telling

---Just to add, BrooksB is 6 foot 4 and recovery has never been kind to bigger bodied players
Not brokenhearted at all mate, I think you're taking this more personally than you should be, especially with that "lacking neurons" zinger which represents a complete lack of basic understanding of biology...

It's not just "greats" who've withstood consecutive 5 setters so that point is completely void...

You've also made assumptions for no reason about how players from the past would fare today. It can easily be argued the other way around and either way this is untestable and therefore irrelevant so you have no point once again...

Fritz and Karatsev still played much shorter points so that point doesn't stand either...

Jenson won 5 games in the second half (1.5 hrs) of the match, so you're wrong again here...

Nadal at RG is an exception in every sense so again your point here doesn't exist yet again...

And the height excuse is just an excuse, it doesn't make the fact that he's less physically fit any less true which was the original point. Your point again goes out the window...

So basically you haven't made any meaningful or correct points for me to discuss. Therefore I see no reason to continue this discussion since it seems literally every other person in this thread has said how poor Brooksby's endurance is and it's especially tiring to see 20 year olds be less fit physically than 34 year olds again and again.

Please don't respond to this bc there's really no point continuing this "discussion"...

Zed has a very formidable obstacle next round - called Harris.
To me the HIGHEST Pure Tennis level of the tournament was Set 2, 3, 4 of Harris vs Opelka. Harris was unplayable - reminded me of Pistol Pete almost.
Close 2nd highest level of UsOpen, would be Set 3 by Alcaraz vs Titspas from 2-5 down.
I would love to see Harris beat Zvev, he is one of the nicest guys on tour and no nonsense tennis
The only thing is the experience this deep but he has been a good steady inprover

Like all these big guys, recovery is the issue as one could see with BrooksB with that droning style
you need to be super fit to keep that up for 2 weeks. Brooksb is only 20 and with that body size
will need some very good training to maximize his potential apart from working Todd Martin ;)

Zero justification of expecting Zed to beat Novak. The German is one of the biggest mental midgets and has a poor slam record. Let's see.
Med could maybe play insane and win, but Zed not in a thousand years. He could lead by 2 sets to 0 but his forehand will stop and double faults will start.
Zverev might not get by Lloyd

Djokovic gets scared when someone outgrinds him and runs out of ideas. The american couldn't sustain the level though and he has a wta serve

That was so weird. Brooksby has no serve, the kind of overhead you'd expect from someone with no overhead.

Also weird was that he usually hit put away shots right back to Novak instead of the open court or going behind Novak.

Where did he learn those things? Can he unlearn them?

The comparison between Brooksby and Alcasar is pretty stark.

Nole says america has a bright future in tennis. LOL Pandering to the crowd. We have had no future in 20 years. A kid that can't serve or play more than a set is no future for us
But he is a kid, so plenty of time to fix that. He certainly has a bright future if he fixes his serve and works on his stamina.

Djoker has more stamina than anybody. This is why he’s so tough to put away in a best of 5 setup. You have to get up 2 sets to love quickly, then hold on for dear life like a bat does to a tunnel during a hurricane.

Djoker is also the ultimate at making adjustments. He was caught by surprise in the first set. But as usual, he made his adjustments. And of course, Djoker completely took Brooksby’s legs out.

Djoker is the ultimate player. His anticipation skills have caught up to his speed, which makes him nearly impossible to hit through over a long 5 set match.

It’s going to take a red-lining bomb-server to have a chance. If Berrettini or Zverev has a career-best day at serving, then Djoker could be taken out. That’s what it’ll take. I think Zverev has the best chance: maybe a 25% chance at beating Djoker. And that’s a credit to Djoker. He’s just that damn good.

He’s a fitness guru and Serve Doctor Pat Dougherty away from winning slams. He’ll pay $Ks for the former but only needs to shell out $29.95 for the Shot Doctor DVD. If he is still on a budget despite 4R money, he can YT much of Pat’s secrets for free.

I mean, all the Djokovic matches have sucked for the most part, and that's what half the people here watch exclusively
I don't. My rule of thumb is to never watch Djokovic before at least the QF but I made an exception tonight because Brooksby put up a good fight. Then I lost interest when Djokovic was up 2 sets to 1 because he is not that exciting to watch when he is on cruise control in my opinion.

Actually I enjoyed to watch young Djokovic he played more offensive and not as polished.

Too late for that date in Turin this year. @sureshs had the tips to make November 2022 a reality though. For confirmation that sureshs is all he needs, he can subscribe to the Sureshs Archives channel on Vimeo created and administered by TTW forum member @Turbo-87. Here is just one sample:

Seriously, Brooksby in the fourth round makes me shake my head. I mean, his game is so . . . ordinary. There's nothing about it that says second week of a Slam to me. Plus, I can't in good faith cheer on anyone on "Team 10-minute Toilet Break Whenever I Lose a Set" Club.

I would have tuned in to watch Aslan play Djokovic . . . but I'll pass on this big time. I feel bad for how hostile might be to Djokovic, but he a grown man. I hope he wallops him.
His game is far from ordinary lol! Are you joking?

Two handed drop shots, two handed slices, slow serves, huge fight and really punishing point construction.

You always make me laugh when I'm down on novak's chances (y)

Brookskpy played amazing uplifting tennis. Just needs to learn to do it all the time - takes time - ask Zverev.

Djokovic still surprising many people however with how many tactical mental gears he has in his locker - they don’t learn lol
