Zverev is playing WORSE than he was in the AO. And UsOpen surface suits Novak's game better. Zverev liked faster and lower bouncing AO surface.
Also Zverev has back issues constantly here and he might be injured/not in top shape.
Are you trolling? Zverev is playing by far the best tennis of his career from the olympics-presently

considering how bad he choked in the Final last year against Thiem, I'd give him 2% chance max, expect lots of 65 mph second serve DF's indeed.
I hope you guys are right, but I don't see it. He has not looked like regular Zverev this year, especially the last few weeks. He didn't even do his customary 4 or 5 setters in early rounds. I am probably not giving Novak's tougher path and therefore better preparation enough credit, but it's offset some by fatigue from 3 straight exhausting matches (3.5 hours, 3 hours, 3.5 hours). He could just blow him out of the water because of it, a la, AO 2021, when he played tougher opponents, mostly with an injury, than Med and then thrashed him.

To be honest most of the posters on here who are saying Novak has this in the bag and it will be a dawdle are not Novak fans but rather Roger & Rafa fans along with other Novak haters.

It is a way of belittling Novak if he wins and to allow them to gloat if he loses.

The same things happens the other way around when non Rafa & non Roger fans try and make out that their opponents are rubbish and they Rafa/Roger just have to turn up to win.

I agree that anyone who thins Zverev has no chance are kidding themselves. However you are equally kidding yourself if you automatically think if Zverev reproduces his form against Ramos0Vinalos that Novak wouldn't win a set. If Novak plays the way he did in last 3 sets last night then he would have a good shot at winning.

It all depends on which one is zoning for most of the match. Novak has far far more pressure on his shoulders than Zverev but he is pretty good at handling it whereas there are still some major questions over Sasha's ability to do likewise
You have to remember you're talking to the most clueless poster in this thread. I've never read more desperate, shallow, and embarrassing posts on here. I guess hes trying to throw out stats now to make his point more legitimate, but he doesn't understand the difference between wanting someone to win because you hate the other player and truly thinking they can for x, y, and z reasons. It makes no sense why he hates Novak yet loves spending so much time on his matchup threads. It's the definition of a posting contradiction.

It's partly circumstantial though. Sock match had 5 setter written all over it (or even a win for Sock) if he didn't get injured. He also had a very easy QF.

Oh for sure on Sock. I was pissed. Did you notice how Zverev went over and had a long convo with his dad while Sock was getting worked on? Same guy claiming he know for certain Sissy was texting his dad in the bathroom like he did at the French. No one really called it out. I know I'm getting off topic here, but a lot of his behavior is starting to make me believe some of these allegations towards him. Similar character traits are required.

Nah I never noticed. Only thing I'm that worried about is Novak's nerves cancelling out Zverev's nerves that will inevitably surface.

Yeah, he's an effing hypocrite. I don't know if the wife beating stuff is true but we have evidence proving he's a sheety guy.

If Novak plays the way he did in the last 3 sets vs Berritinni, Zverev won't win a set. Zverev's second serve is WEAK, his forehand is shaky and becomes a UFE machine under pressure. Berritinni's serve and groundies are more reliable than Zverev, although Zverev's backhand is FAR better.

Quite honestly, Zverev has been crap in the last 3 matches. He should have lost to Sock, had the American not been injured. He was on brink of losing sets vs Harris and Sinner. Both of them missed sitters and choked massively.

Unless Novak is injured, there is literally a ZERO chance of Zverev winning. If Novak is close to the level vs Berrittinni the match will be 3 or at most 4 sets.

Sock would have beat a mutant combo of Djokovic/Federer/Nadal that night had he kept the level he displayed in the first set. That was the greatest set of tennis I have ever seen lol

Zverev in the zone can destroy anybody, but Djokovic is a master to disturb the opponent's rhythm. It will be close probably, and because of that I would say that Djokovic has a slight advantage. He will hold nerves better in tight situations. Novak in four sets.

Riiiiight. He was never going to maintain that level for 3 sets anyway but he was obviously having a good night.

He didn't have to keep it up. Zverev was starting to lose it a bit in the second set. Tennis is a game for two, and Zverev has lost to Sock twice before.

It's a real pity Sock was injured. Would he have won? Who knows, but Zverev would like have sweat for quite a bit longer.

Really? By winning B03? He almost got beaten by Titsp in Cincy. And was a set and break behind by Novak in OG until Novak got physically exhausted.
Zedzilla was playing better when he won WTF. This is in no way his best tennis. Not even close. His second serve is still bad and his forehand is bag of UFEs.

Lol, Joker in 4, and not 3 because he knows Z cannot beat him so he will let his focus slip because he’ll be thinking about his laundry during the match.

It’s funny seeing hardcore ND fans trying to validate Z, all the while knowing that Novak will win this and the next 4 slams effortlessly. Good stuff!

Djokovic in 5. Zverev has the game and is improving between the ears but I think Djokovic in a BO5 is one step too far. Maybe next time, he is on the right path to get there.

I will enjoy this thread when all the people saying Zverev has no chance are giddy and celebrating after Zverev wins the first set.

“Djokovic is a mug!!! This is embarrassing!!!!”

and then after Djokovic wins it will be right back to

“Zverev is a mug!!!! How embarrassing that Djokovic played him in a semi final!!!”

According to this board, Djokovic has never actually won a match against a good player in good form.

This should have been the two finalists. Either winning would be better than Auger Aliassime or Medvedev

OK if he has been crap and still winning in straights, then what about the world #1 who did lose sets including a 6-1 humiliation to Brooksby, Nishikori, and Rune?

Seeing tennisfan3's reaction to a Zverev win will be icing on the cake. Wonder what kind of mental gymnastics he'll have to do for that.
Fortunately we won't find out. Since Novak will win. And pretty easily as well.
There is no mental gymnastics needed.
I'm just surprised you guys are betting for a serial choker with no slam history against the GOAT.

Maybe it's just better to lose the first set in this match?

So far this year, they've met 3 times.
ATP Cup: Zverev took the first set in tie-break and lost in 3
Melbourne. Zverev took the first set in tie-break and lost in 4
Olympics: this time Djokovic won the first set 6-1 and lost in 3

Since last year Djokovic is practically unplayable when he loses the first set. Just ask Tsitsipas, Nadal, Musetti, Draper,Edmund, Carreno, Monfils, Bautista, Raonic, Berrettini, Brooksby, Nishikori,... If I were Zverev I would donate the first set on purpose. LOL

LOL, no. No way would Sock have kept up the zone level of the first set. It would've been a 4-setter for Zverev had Sock not got injured.

If Zverev plays well, then yes. But it's always possible that Zverev just sucks for a large part of a match, and then it's one of those days where he can lose to anyone. And then the opponent doesn't even need his "zone level".

Ultron in 3. Zverev was sh*tty and showing negative energy even when winning. No way he is beating inform Ultron that's hungry & motivated

Nice post. But Djoker also wins a lot of matches in straight sets.
If Zedzilla loses set 1 - there is more than a 50% chance of straight set blowout.

If Novak loses of course i will be gutted especially for few days. However if he loses to a Zverev who is serving and playing out of his skin than that will in a way be easier to take as some days you just come up against an opponent who is on fire.

I do think if it goes to 5 sets Novak is likely to win but i can see either winning in 4 hard fought sets. Hope it is Novak who does it though.

Still ABZ, but if the winning streak (which includes defeating Djoker in a big match) is anything to go by, this should be an exciting one. There may never be a better opportunity for Zed to overcome those hurdles. Especially if Djokovic will be tight and shaky under the tremendous pressure, you'd expect that he gets punished by a guy 10 years his junior, who is at his absolute peak. I still trust Medvedev more, if it comes to that, but let's see. If Zverev implodes and becomes an UE machine, then the guy is truly a lost cause, in terms of mental strength.

It's both possible to:
1) Be part of ABND and want him to lose because your fave is Federer or Nadal. Or you just plain old dislike him because you're a human and sometimes you dislike people.
2) Be able to see reasons why Zverev might beat Djokovic.

Also, I find it funny when Djokovic fans say 'you only say Zverev will win because you hate Djokovic."
Oh, ok? Any you say Djokovic will win...because....?

it's just trolls imo.

This website has a huge issue with people misrepresenting how they actually feel as an agenda. i.e. Fedal fans saying 'it's NID Djokovic will win'. I have actually seen a lot of nervousness and trepidation from Djokovic fans on here. Obviously some over confidence about 'earth's mightiest warrior' and other cringe BS like that. But most people who actually follow tennis, even if you aren't a Djokovic fan, know the Olympics match happened. Don't know how anyone can watch that and then say Zverev can't win, given that he handed Djokovic a breadstick in the 3rd set. That's undeniable.

But so many people are just like 'it's NID, the NextGen sucks, etc.' that we barely ever get to nuanced analysis of the matchups. This is an intriguing tactical match tbh.

Zverev is a notch above Djokovic, no chance of Djokovic winning.
I wish this were true. Unfortunately it's not true ): But I do think Zverev will win the match if he doesn't have those mental lapses where he loses his concentration at pivotal moments in the match. He definitely is the better player so far in this tournament but that doesn't always translate into winning the match.
