LOL - it was a surface graze. It wasn't an emergency.
She took FREAKING 5+ mins of MTO. How much time does a freaking bandage take - 30 sec tops.
Fact - she would have been broken. And Fernandez lost all momemntum.

Emma played amazing tennis sure. But she should have done it without the GAMESMANSHIP.
blood is blood and the trainer has to take care and make sure it is cleaned properly, this is not some local park hits and giggles, ref calls the medical as protocol so it can be handled.
Keep with the sour grapes.

I would give LF a pass on the end of the match, she is 19 y.o. in first final and watch a BP slip away. She will have her chance, let her get it off her chest, no reason for the hate.
I totally give her a pass. Break point, she had the momentum. I get it's very frustrating and she can't not be emotionally charged. But, it was a legit MTO - which she may not have even realized.

Let's cut LAF some slack. She is literally 19 years old, and is broken down mentally and physically. You wouldn't do everything you could to hype yourself up during a match like this? She had a BP to stay in the match, knowing she may never have a chance to win a Slam again.

She is no villain. She is a kid.

Well done by Emma to cap off the amazing run. Special thanks to Leylah for some incredible matches.
The MTO incident is a non-issue in my book. Not like Emma wanted it and I bet Leylah didn’t really know what was going on.
Hopefully the first of many great meetings for them and hopefully they can keep the WTA going in this trajectory.

Raducanu beat her like a rug

Fernandez put herself in this position, in my view. I have talked about this repeatedly in the past few days. She doesn’t know how to maintain a lead, and then the sets and matches get very long. At some point, it catches you.

She has been great this tournament, but not that efficient (partly because of tougher opponents). She should learn how to be a good front runner.

congratulations to Raducanu.

Leylah's kind of a sore loser. She acts as if the mandatory bleeding timeout wasn't given she would have won. The blood was going to be dripping on the court. She lost in straight sets. Sometimes people with that always smiling face aren't so nice when they lose..., smh.

You don't see too many 6-4, 6-3 two hour matches. Was high quality all around, Fernandez just had that lull in the middle of the 2nd set that did her in and ultimately her 1st serve % was the real issue. I think she got herself too worked up over the medical instead of just staying relaxed and it affected her, but hopefully she'll learn from it. I do think her smiling at some points, and after the medical, was a bit weird.

I didnt think it was possible that the women's side would be a bigger story than Djokovic going for the calendar slam and overall record of grand slam titles, but somehow this just happened.

Wanted Fernandez to win to become the second Canadian to win in three years, but Emma won it fair and square. Congrats to Raducanu for completing possibly the most astonishing grand slam story of all time.

Look - she deserved to win etc. And she's got an amazing game.
But she should have been smart enough to minimize the MTO for the small graze.

I can guarantee you if we have a great champion like Rafa, Novak, Fed etc - they would have just gotten a bandage quickly or just wiped it off the towel.
Halting the game at breakpoint for 5 mins clearly wasn't the best thing to do.

Unbelievable! So tense! This is super, super sweet as a Brit. Also, incredible to see someone who cites Li Na as an idol win a major so soon after her retirement.
