US open 2011 I think. Played really well to be Serena.
Thanks. Couldn't quite remember which Grand Slam. I knew it was a long time ago - 10 years ago. I really enjoyed Stosur's win that year but then she never played as well again ): It would be nice for her to get a doubles championship before her retirement from the tour.

I didn't realize Zhang was that accomplished of a singles player. I recognize the name, but apparently missed her entire singles career. Didn't she beat Serena once?

I think they've only played a couple of times (and outside Grand Slam events) with Williams winning. Zhang did beat Halep in Australia as a qualifier (2016).

Reached QF's of Wimbledon in 2019 as well.

Caught the last few minutes. Coco just smash her racquet after missing 2/3 forehand returns in this game?

Almost forgot too, but congrats Stosur/Zhang. 2 slams this year for Sam @Aussie Darcy ?
Just the one slam, her and Zhang won Cincy a few weeks back and they won the 2019 Aus Open together too.

4 slams for Stosur in ladies doubles now. Had 61 weeks at #1 way back in 2006.

Thought Gauff/McNally were all over the place in that match. Surprised they made the final.
They made the final because their opponents at semi Dabrowski/Stefani had to retire, Stefani rolled her ankle at the first set TB. I watched it live, I would put my money on D/S to make the final, we would have a Cincy women's double final repeat at USO, and Stosur/Zhang winning again!

Gauff's behaviors may indicate her inadequate mental state of mind for the game. She's just 17. Comparing her to the 18 year old Emma Raducanu, I see a lot of differences in the mental area. Seems that some sort of ego may have grown on the young Coco. Perhaps, Gauff needs one more year to mature.

It was Wang Qiang that beat Serena at the AO in 2020 I believe. And unfortunately, she's achieved very little since.
Zhang Shuai's singles career picked up massively after the AO win over Halep alongside her doubles results.

Teenage tennis players have bratty moments (actually, many tennis players in general, including the adults). I'm not sure why people on these boards are expecting players not to show frustration, not to smash rackets... It's happened for decades and won't stop. As long as they aren't abusing or hurting anyone else they can take the warning from the umpire and any consequences that come with it. It's as if fans are clutching on to minor behaviours to crucify players they dislike/hate for other reasons? Hmm.

I was shocked at how much she wanted the title yesterday (and to a lesser extent McNally). I presumed when I turned on to watch it, it would mostly be a bit of a lark, a case of "if we win, great. If not, well, it's not as big for me as the singles". At the end though, she looked distraught.

Have to wonder if the runs of Raducanu/Fernandez had put her out a bit, and she felt she suddenly needed this one for a bit of a boost. At the start of the tournament, if you'd have said a teen was winning the women's singles, 99% of ppl would have probably said Gauff (note - I might personally have had a punt on Tauson, but she still isn't Raducanu or Fernandez).

I don't know the stats on this one but I see the older players do it more often than the younger/teenage ones. I'd love to see the numbers of frustrated 17-18 year olds competing in the ATP/WTA with adults on the courts smacking their racquets as often or more than the older ones, really. To my knowledge, those teens are happy to be there and that even with just a little success. "People on these boards" and perhaps everywhere in the world of tennis may more likely think that those very young 17-18 year old ATP/WTA pro tennis players feel more fortunate than frustrated to be in second, third rounds let alone the semis or finals of the greatest pro events. Do you really expect us to be fine with a 17 year old girl's big ego in the GS finals? What do you think she will do on that court at 27 then? (and if she loses in the 1st round)

Raducanu has withdrawn from the Portugal Ladies Open, an ITF tournament she was originally scheduled to play this week.
Emma would be literally digging her own grave in Portugal, if she agreed to compete there. Her body would fall apart. She's played an enormous amount of matches, very intense matches, in last 4-5 weeks continuously and all the way to finals. (Chicago and right after qualies and main draw USO) I am so glad to see Ms. Raducanu is very smart and under a great management.
