Here's a great analysis of what went down in the match:

Djokovic's performance didn't really drop all that much compared to his previous matches, but Berrettini simply hadn't faced anyone like Djokovic up to the final and this negatively impacted almost all of his numbers. Novak predictably handled Matteo's serves much better than anyone else, putting many more back in play, but also attacking his 2nd serves like no one else could. Berrettini has one of the fastest 2nd serves on tour right now and was winning 63% of his 2nd serve points. This cratered to 38% against Djokovic. By directing as many returns to the BH as he could, Djokovic prevented Berrettini from hitting a FH after his serve to gain control of the point, which had worked so well for him.

Once the rallies started, Novak successfully pinned MB to the backhand corner where he knew BH-to-BH exchanges would favor him. Berrettini's lack of a reliable DTL backhand made it difficult for him to escape this pattern. On his 2nd serves, Djokovic served a slower 2nd than usual to the Berrettini BH, forcing him to generate his own pace. Without a DTL return, these points would once again settle into the BH-to-BH pattern that favors Djokovic.

All in all, a masterfully executed gameplan from Djokovic for most of the match.
