Second GS SF for Berrettini after US Open 2019.
Hurkacz is the first Pole in a GS SF since Janowicz at Wimbledon 2013.

Who is going to win?
The Italian with his big serve and atomic forehand?
The Pole with his versatility and confidence boost after epic 6-3 7-6(4) 6-0 win over Federer in the QF?

H2H
Berrettini 1-1 Hurkacz

Sticking with Berrettini in 4 sets for this one.

Sorry Fedfans but as well as Hurkacz played, he was gifted FAR too many errors from Federer and that made it easier. Berrettini will not hand him those same errors and he has been hitting big and playing well on grass. Hard to bet against him.

I'll go with Berrettini. He's been on this stage before (granted, not at Wimbledon) and often lesser players have a let-down after a big win over one of the Big 3. Hardly set in stone, though – Hurkacz has the craft and variety to break down Matteo's aggression.

Hard to believe none of Zverev, Medvedev or Federer made the SF from that side of the draw.

Really hard to predict, but I think Berrettini wins this one.

I’m too young to have seen a lot of Pete but Berrettini has that inevitability about his service games. Down 0-30 and he just finds huge 130mph first serves at will. Very intimidating player and by far the most confident server in the world right now.

Will be interesting to see if he keeps this up. Hurkacz has the variety and net game to really trouble him once they get into rallies, too.

Matteo serves better
Hurkacz returns much better
Hurkacz has more consistent groundstrokes
Both equally good enough at the net
Berretini has a little more firepower
Hurkacz moves better.

Extremely tough match to predict.
You left out the most important aspect: what my old coach used to call, the handshake.

Namely, who is better at winning tennis matches? Who's got the killer instinct? Who will have the guts to go for the jugular when the opportunity presents itself? Who will handle the moment and thrive in it, and who will be crippled by it? Both are obviously prone to nerves, but have been learning to overcome them. Berrettini has a good record in finals, pulling off two very close 3-setters this season but showing some chokishness in the Madrid final, the biggest of his career. Hurcacz on the other hand is very inconsistent, but very dangerous when he starts to get deep in a tournament. His Miami run is all the evidence you need, and even the way he dismissed fedr today speaks volumes - no matter how poor the Swiss may have been.

Interesting, very open match. I suspect the bookies will favor Matteo, and that's not really something I love...

VAI BERRETTA!!!

Hubie lacks in the offensive department but I'll go with 3-1 to him, mainly because I don't like players with a clear handicap do that well. And I'm talking about Berr and his backhand.

I have the feeling we are in for a really great semi!!!! I am predicting Berrettini in 4 but I am really not certain - they are both playing awesome tennis!!!! I love them both - who would have imagined that one of the two of them would make it to a Wimbledon final - ahead of Zverev, Medvedev, and Tistsipas!!!

I got HH on this one. Beating Med and Fed will do wonders for his confidence. Berre's backhand is a major weakness in this matchup.

Can the Berrettini Open expand to the AELTC in London?

But Hubert looked good today so I'll go with him in 4 or 5.

I think the main thing that impressed me about Hurkacz the last 3 days was his steady mind. Played 2 great players back to back and didn't flinch or let up mentally. If he comes out firing on Friday he might be able to get under Berrettini's skin a bit.

Tricky one but hopefully it ends up being exciting and competitive

He is the first Polish man since Janowicz in 2013 (got my Andy Murray hat on now). Radwanska also made the semis of Wimbledon that year.
True, my notes are about ATP only.
I consider WTA as a different world. Radwanska played in 2012 Wimby SF (and won it), Iga Swiatek reached SF at RG last year (she won it as well).

Bookies see Berrettini as a quite clear favourite.

Hurkacz SF win odds are even higher than QF win odds against Federer.
Is Berrettini a tougher opponent than The Swiss?

It's amazing that one of these two is going to make it to a FINAL at Wimbledon!!!!! I am really looking forward to this match! If Shapovalov loses on Friday as most people think he will (I am predicting Shapo btw) I will be rooting for the winner of this match on Sunday. Still, an exciting semi will be fun to watch!

I don't know why, but I'm leaning Hurkacz. I don't think either guy has played top tier players when you consider Med's previous grass results (incl. Cilic match) and the fact that he gifted Hubie the win in 4R. As a Novak fan, I'm not sure who I'd rather see, either. I was pulling for Rog lol.

Because they know.....just like I’ve repeatedly stated.....that Hurkacz is a weak player and does not belong here.

Says the guy that said Shapo would choke. And that Hurkacz wouldn't beat Fed.

Hurkacz belongs here because, well, he made it here. He beat people to get here.

Every tournament is about who shows up and who wins. Please stop belittling professional tennis players.

I will be betting HEAVILY on berrettini. And in no shape or form did I EVER say shapo would choke, so stop putting words in my mouth. If I remember correctly I said “I’ve seen this script before and he USUALLY ends up choking.” Now SIT DOWN

You sound angry and are using a lot of CAPITALS!
I apologize if I mistook your comment about 'usually ends up choking'. It sounded like a match call to me.

Yeah, and your Einstein prediction on the outcome of the Fed-Hubi match is one for the ages, oh wise sage. Since you're using all caps, one wonders if you're not the duplicate account of the one p-ssing the bed over Med's "terrible AGONIZING schedule." Do make sure to use a proxy server, dear, so your "ruse" isn't exposed.

Lol Medvedev is a clown and has nobody to blame but himself. They literally asked him if he wanted to wait for Federer’s match to play on that court and he said no.

Well the organizers screwed over Medvedev, so obviously he did not make the SF.
Meddle screwed himself, losing that 2nd set TB well before rain affected the schedule. But that piece of evidence gets in the way of your monotonous victim card routine.

Don’t you have anything better to do than cry like this again in a thread a day after the perennial 3R Wimby washout lost?

I am just hoping for a fun match on Friday - two fun matches would be even better! I would love a Berrettini-Shapovalov final or a Hurkacz-Shapovalov final. I know it's more likely that the other one will win and not Shapo but I will cling to my belief that Shapo can win until proven otherwise!!!

Yes. Medvedev deserves blame for his loss. He totally mugged up on day 2 of the match. But this does NOT negate the fact that he was also SHAFTED by the organizers big time. Both factors are responsible for his loss.
Tell me with a straight face that in ANY OTHER slam, a world #2 would only get court 1 and court 2 without roof as the last match. 4 matches - and none on center.
So please, let's NOT pretend that the organizers were fair. Sure Med should have played better and won regardless. But that such bias (against the #2) is happening in this day and age is uncalled for.

But you know, folks such as yourself, would rather pat the Wimbledon organizers on their back for a job well done. As long as it helped your favorite. Take out your favorite cap and think objectively. That is why stuff like this happens, because people don't say anything. Thankfully in places such as UsOpen and Australia - this crap would have never happened.

Anyway, Medvedev deserves criticism for underperforming and for losing to a non-top 5 player such as HH. But that doesn't absolve the organizers for what they did.

@BeatlesFan - For the record, I NEVER play games in terms of using different accounts etc. I'm TennisFan3 and have been since the past 12 years when I joined this forum. I've NEVER impersonated anyone or used different accounts except this single one. I also NEVER insult any posters. I might disagree with the argument, but I NEVER call any insulting names to any poster or get in a verbal dogfight which lacks respect.
You may not agree with what I say or post, but please don't make unsubstantiated allegations. Anyway, this is an internet forum, so you probably won't believe me. Just wanted to say my piece..

Unlike you, a fanatic, I don’t look at the sport through a blinding perspective that generates an obvious paranoia. I was a fan of the sport a long time before fedr ever emerged on the scene. I guess you just can’t understand the sport is bigger than any one player. When did you start following the sport? I’m guessing by your bias probably well after any active player became prominent.

You just go ahead on presuming things and defying plain old logic. First it was this imagined slight about Centre Court vs Court #1 snub. That argument went out the door when a roof was added. No ad CC anymore. Then you fail to grasp the large gap between career accomplishments of the two players. fedr has won 8 titles there. Meddle has won two titles there now…3R champion and now 4R champion. Congratulations, you get a Meddle! This kind of gap means something quite a bit more than thedifference between a #8 and a #2 ranking. But you rant on there’s a conspiracy to punish Meddle. He punished himself by losing to Goffin in 3R 2019 from 2-1 sets up, losing to Mannarino 3R 2018 in five sets, by losing to Bemmelmans 2R 2017 in 5 sets again. My God! His losing is almost as monotonous as your victim card crying. I have no cheese left to offer you for your whine. But keep on…it’s what you’re good at.

Bantering with you is good fun. You're a good sport about it. Hopefully the next gen can come up with some drama for us at the very least.
