I’m too young to have seen a lot of Pete but Berrettini has that inevitability about his service games. Down 0-30 and he just finds huge 130mph first serves at will. Very intimidating player and by far the most confident server in the world right now.

Will be interesting to see if he keeps this up. Hurkacz has the variety and net game to really trouble him once they get into rallies, too.
I'm too young to remember Pietrangeli's 1960 semi vs Laver, but I've heard him cry countless times about how badly he threw away that match. For the first time in my lifetime, I'll witness an Italian in the Wimbledon semis. There were years (many many years) when such an event seemed inconceivable, and I am getting antsy already.

That said, I'm old enough to have seen plenty of Sampras. And mentioning him in the same sentence as Berrettini is pure blasphemy.

This SF goes first as Djokovic vs Shapovalov second.

His serve is around as fast, that is objectively true. And I’m making the point that Berrettini’s serves on big points have been phenomenal.

Obviously he is a far inferior player.

Surprised that Berrettini-Hurkacz will be up first but happy about it - that's the match I am so looking forward to tomorrow!

agreed. far inferior. shouldnt be compared to sampras, longevity of the serve over 10-12 years was phenomenal. berre's only done it for a year. You'll see how much he will get broken by djokovic on sunday if he makes it that far.

HH in about 4 sets based on current form. HH easily beat roger king of grass, a feat djokovic hasnt been able to do.

HH/Djok final on sunday seems likely.

Berry in 4. I can’t ignore a 21-2 record on grass in ‘19-‘21 and the titles in Stuttgart’19 and Queen’s Club last month while Hobie Cat was going out 1R at both Stuttgart and Halle.

The common foe on grass this season…Hurk lost to Felix in straight sets last month in Halle while yesterday vs Berry was a berry different outcome for FAA.

I also have to wonder how well Hurk absorbs pace on grass. fedr built a lead in the second set by starting to hit out after a slow start. Same for Meddle’s first two sets in R16. Also, Felix at Halle. The Swiss teen Stricker used big serving to win in 2 TBs at Stuttgart. I think Berry also hits through him. There should be at least three close sets with Hobie Cat winning one and entertaining tennis for all.

I‘m still amazed that Berrettini managed to do so well at RG and Wimbledon back to back.

I would love to see the winner of this match take the title, but in the end Nole will likely keep on stacking his trophies.

I am thinking that Hurkacz will likely have a letdown after winning against two higher ranked players in a row. That is usually what happens but I don't feel certain about it in his case. Felix's level of play was simply much higher than Roger's and that has to be factored in to a feeling I had on Wednesday when I thought Berrettini would have an easier time of it and win in 3 straight sets.

All I know is that for me this is an incredibly exciting match, one I am really looking forward to - who will make it to their first Grand Slam final??? (:

lol! Craig Boynton sporting a Solinco shirt to go along with their giant logo on his cap. He just unzipped his jacket to expose he has become a walking billboard for the string manufacturer. His player Hurkacz is full Yonex, stick and string from what I see on the board.

Easy hold at love for Hobie Cat.

I failed to ask serve expert @sureshs about the Pole’s funky take back with the stringbed fully closed as he coils on the backswing.

Fat chance when history awaits novak djokovic.

Well folks, I’ve downed one of these and now I’m ready with scotch and Lindt balls, ready to watch our dismal challengers.

Matching love hold for Berry.

Opening point of Hurk’s service game was classic. Now, more great play by Berry for 0-30.

A Hurk backhand error and it’s 0-40.!

Hurk climbs out of that grave to hold. 2-1. I’m thinking the over/under for TBs should be 4. Maybe one of these Stich vs Edberg SFs where the loser is never broken.
