Way to break out the moves...Petkovic does her little dance after her win over Cirstea a minute ago. :)

"After the match, Samsonova got even more good news: she was granted the final main-draw wildcard into Wimbledon. "They just told me that I’m going to have the wildcard for the main draw, so I’m so happy," Samsonova said."

I think Muguruza would have a great shot but I still don't know if she's healthy yet. She's also gotten the Federer habit of losing while having match points. Thinking Bencic could have a deep run too.

On paper Barty has to be the favorite but I don't know if I trust her at Wimbledon. I'm kind of expecting mayhem this tournament but we will see how it pans out. I'm just ecstatic that we're having Wimbledon as it's my favorite tournament.

That's brilliant, I'm glad they've rewarded her as she has inserted herself as a threat here just like Badosa did at RG and we all know she certainly didn't disappoint in making the QFs.

Muguruza was on a roll after the AO, but then overplay seemed to cause a niggle. I'm not sure whether she lost to Cornet because she turned off the gas and wanted to get to Wimbledon to have a full week to prepare, but I think losing that match made it clear to me that she's in danger when she has an off day, which seems to happen at most tournaments she enters, hence why she doesn't have as many WTA titles to her name as she should do - former #1 with 2 majors and just 6 WTA titles.

I think Barty
Do we know if she's fit and ready to go? I don't think she's playing any warm-up events.

Also, I've noticed many names withdrawing from tournaments this week, so a lot of the players who did well at RG for instance are not playing a single grass warm-up event. It may not matter for some - could well play themselves through the early rounds - but I can't see that being likely for all of them.

Osaka will win another GS title. She will be kept from attending the post conference reporters and let her PR personnel hand the matter.

Hopefully we will have a mix of upcoming and established names in the latter stages.

I read Barty is favourite, with Serena Williams a close second. Hmmmm.

People thought RG was crazy, Wimbledon is even crazier.

Andreescu and Swiatek have never won a match as they’ve both only played 1 Wimbledon
Krejcikova has never played a main draw.
Sabalenka has won just one match from 3 attempts
Barty has never gone past the 4R
Kenin has played just twice losing in the 2R twice

Of the top 10 seeds, only 3 have gone past the 4R with Serena who’s won it 7 time’s, Halep once and Svitolina making a SF.

Wimbledon has had random SFists for a number of years since the top ladies aren’t great on grass.

2019: Strycova
2018: Ostapenko/Goerges
2017: Rybarikova
2016: Vesnina

Expecting Pironkova to cruise through qualifying and go on a good run in the tournament, she's been good on grass.

I don't have a clue who will win the title, and probably any of about 50 players could potentially do so. I personally love it, and much prefer this current state of play to the days (which I remember well) when the same group of select few players would stomp completely overmatched opponents en-route to reaching the semi-finals time after time. .

Hopefully they'll be plenty of very enjoyable 1st and 2nd round matches early next week, like at other recent big tournaments including at RG. I personally love the 1st and 2nd rounds of Wimbledon and grand slams in-particular and trying to decide which matches to watch.

I hope that happens. Not seen anyone really stand out so far as a favourite, so some runs from of the veterans would be nice.

Pironkova-Konjuh final round of qualifying by two women I'd expect to qualify if they were in just about any other pod. One has to go home :(

Barty opens against the retiring Carla Suarez Navarro who of course is returning after her battle with cancer. Gee there’d be quite a few wanting a fairytale story and beating the #1 would do it...

Christ.
Barty is drawn either Siniakova, Vandeweghe or Konta in the 3R. Konta a former SFist, Vandeweghe a 2x former QFist and Siniakova is in great form, a set away from the SF in Bad Homburg.

Pliskova (who is in terrible form) draws French Open SFist Zidansek. Pliskova never does well at Wimbledon having never gone past the 4R.

Wow some killer 1R:

Sloane v Kvitova
Swiatek v Hsieh
Barty v Suárez Navarro
Krejcikova v Tauson
Siniakova v Konta
Kontaveit v Vondrousova
Andreescu v Cornet

More dangerous for Barty is she is drawn RG champ Krejcikova in the 4R.
Krej hasn't played a warm-up on grass and I expect Tauson will want to make a name for herself. Krej is likely to win, I feel her game should translate well to grass too but I wonder if not playing any warm-ups will make her vulnerable early on...

Kvitova is going deep in Bad Homburg currently. I'd be excited for that match if SS had been able to play in BH also but I'm now doubting what she can bring with no matches on grass this year.
Hsieh can be tricky - let's see if she turns it on.
Siniakova is going deep in BH too. There is concern that Konta is carrying an injury - she won Notts but hasn't played for nearly 2 weeks now so I'd fancy Siniakova in the zone at present.
Intrigued to see if Andreescu will enact revenge on Cornet. I really hope Bianca shows up and finds good form here.
Very much interested to see how Ostapenko and Kasatkina will do at Wimbledon. Also, whether Kvitova and Muguruza will show up in top form or just dip out in a match they would win if they were playing well.

It was difficult to choose 9 specific names of tennis players for the poll (10th option is traditionally Other player), I therefore used the following keys:

TOP 2 seeds: Barty, Sabalenka
Past Wimbledon champions: Serena, Kvitova, Muguruza, Kerber (I missed Venus because she has been losing in the first rounds for a long time)
2021 Grand Slam winner: Krejcikova
2020 Grand Slam winner: Kenin, Swiatek

Personally wouldn't have included Kerber who has been in abysmal form and same for Kenin. Would have included Azarenka who has been in good form since the tour resumed with a title in Cincy, USO runner up and this year a SF in Doha, 4R at Rg, SF in Berlin and won the doubles and withdrew from the QF in Bad Homburg.

Saw that, I'm likely to give the ladies tournament a miss now. Other than watching Serena matches, I really have no interest in the hot potatoes game going on in the WTA. Hopefully those watching will enjoy it though.

Don’t disrespect the queen of Wimbledon Petra Kvitova

Barty, & Krejcikova have the biggest chances for me. Outsiders: Konta, Azarenka, Andreescu, Kvitova, Kontaveit, Sabalenka, Serena.

Konta is a grass specialist who just won a title and made 1 SF and QF in Wimbledon. Everyone forgets about her?
Kvitova won the title twice and played some good matchs in Homburg.
Serena has little chances but I'll never count her out on grass and HC.
Andreescu could wake up anytime imo. You never know with her...
Sabalenka has won the biggest number of matchs since Uso.
Azarenka always has a chance outside of the FO if she isn't injured.

The more you read and hear about the ladies this year it appears the winner will come from who remains the healthiest. So many injuries and niggles to so many players really has this Wimbledon up for grabs.

Shame about Pironkova not making it.

Suarez Navarro dealt with another vicious first round draw similar to the French Open.
