What a choke by Sabalenka. She’s never gonna win a slam

Put money on Sabalenka this time eh?

Newsflash: it's not a 'choke' if they never were in winning position in the first place. Plus, she only just turned 23 and has plenty of years to win a slam.

Eh she always does this in big matches. She’s playing horrible. And was up a set and serving first so not sure what you are talking about

Sabalenka is serving so great in this game she is laughing at her greatness.

SHe's still very young.

And up a set and serving first in the second is not exactly being in winning position, especially given the fact she won the first set not based on her own strong play. Choking is when you're clearly the better player and on the way to winning and then suddenly giving it away by sudden poor play, but maybe you use a totally different definition of 'choking'?

To me it’s choking when you are the expected winner of the match and come out and play poorly

I think if someone is known for doing something bad........and they do it bad again........its not choking.
But if someone is know for doing something good........and they do it bad........then its choking, especially if its in an important match and/or point.

Sabalenka had never made it to a quarter-final in a major and at this Wimbledon she not only made her first QF, she won it to make her first major semi-final.

I would say she has taken a big step forward this tournament, even if she loses today.

Just keeps hitting it into the net and making routine errors lol. That’s choking
Unless that's what she normally does in other matches.
Some players are just really streaky, so its normal for them to have very error-prone matches.
But if today's error-rate is a lot worse than her normal errors, then its a choke.

I'll admit that it would be kind of nice to see Pliskova get a slam after the slamless #1 stuff. She probably should have won her US Open final with Kerber. Nice little redemption arc of sorts.

So nice to see how Pliskova flatten and crushes the high FH balls. If she goes through to the Final, she might struggle with all the Barty's slices.

Pliskova 30 winners, 17 unforced errors.
Sabalenka 36 winners, 20 unforced errors.

Sabalenka's errors are just more blatant.
But those stats do show you that this is a close match that could turn quickly, because Sabalenka is controlling a lot of the points with her blatancy.

There have been NO separate match threads for ANY of the womens matches this Wimbledon. Compared to about 50 separate match threads for the mens.

Let that sink in.

Sabalenka has a very free-wheeling on-court persona, really plays on instinct.
Its a fun way to play, albeit streaky.

If Sabalenka doesn't let adrenaline get the better of her or chokes under the weight of the occasion, I think she's pretty much going to spank Pliskova. Her movement is way better and she has more oomph on the groundies too, all this apart from a serve that is nearly a match for Pliskova's best. And going by Rome, it's no guarantee Pliskova is going to produce a great serving day on an occasion like Wimby semi.
Well, Sabalenka did get too hyped but this was simply a GOATkova performance. Very happy to be wrong. Pliskova should have got it done in 2 but managed it in 3 anyway.

Congrats to Karolina Pliskova - into the Ladies Final - 5-7; 6-4; and 6-4. Too many errors from Aryna Sabalenka, but she'll be back.....definitely looked a little nervous out there.

Barty/Pliskova should be a good match. Bring it on.
