Sabalenka playing a perfect match. Serving perfectly. Hitting perfectly. Returning perfectly. Holding every game to love or 15.

Been crapping on a lot of matches this week, but this has been a great first set imo. Some bad patches for sure but both girls have raised their level when they've needed to.

Tiebreaker not looking good for Sabalenka though.

Sabalenka may have played well, but two double faults in a row later, Sakkari is about to take the tiebreaker.

I'd rather see players win it all with 0 loss tho. Only selected people did it since Round Robin format was introduced and mostly are legends: Clijster, Henin, Venus, Serena, Kvitova and Svitolina.

For both the men and women YEC, if a player reaches the final undefeated and plays someone who was defeated, then the final should become best of 5 sets if the previously defeated player wins 2 of the first 3 whereas the undefeated player wins best of 3.

The only reason you even have to say "mostly" is cause of Basiclina. Ahahahahaha.

Seriously, I had a nice lol after seeing the other poster quote this.

Do you guys think the flashing break point/set point animations on the electronic backboards get to the players at all? I feel like it would be pretty tilting, especially if you're facing break point on serve.

Scream and a fist pump from Sakkari after Sabalenka donates that game with two doubles and a backhand into the net.

Sabalenka up to 19 doubles.

Sabalenka has blown so many opportunities this year. She's not my favorite, but I would have liked to have seen her win a slam or even this tournament.

#7 Badosa v #6 Muguruza
#4 Sakkari v #8 Kontaveit

One of these will be the WTA Year end champion.

Pretty funny that the last 3 qualifiers are the ones who made the SF.

Kontaveit only qualified on the 31st October and Muguruza and Badosa were the 25th of October.

Sakkari defeating Sabalenka gives the Greek her 9th top 10 win this year with the chance to hit double digits coming.

Pretty insane, even more insane is the fact she hasn't won a title in 18 months.

Sakkari has just 1 International title to her name but now has 19 top 10 wins as well as making the SF's at:
2021 US Open
2021 French Open
2021 Miami Open
2021 WTA Finals*
2019 Italian Open
2017 Wuhan Open

And they clinch the second in a breaker.

Semis will be Krejcikova/Siniakova v. Melichar/Schuurs & Aoyama/Shibahara v. Hsieh/Mertens.

This is interesting:

Karolína Pliskova became the first player since Ana Ivanovic in 2014, and just the third player since the introduction of the round robin format in 2003, to fail to progress past the round robin stage after amassing a 2–1 record in that stage

Can’t forget the 2015 champ Radwanska and 2016 champ Cibulková won the title going 1-2 in the RR stage! So that’s rough for Karolína.
Particularly when one of those wins was over Muguruza who went through. You'd think individual head to head results would be decisive then? Slightly odd, but the same rules for everyone I guess.
