After the first few games, Mertens just declined and didn't seem motivated. Siniakova though was on fire. In the third or fourth game of the second set, Hsieh hit one of the most beautiful lobs I've ever seen.

Oh, yes. I'm in time zone where it's Thursday. Still bizarre schedule but nice to see lots of fans seeing the tournament tho.

You know that tennis matches are held around the world, right? Like when Im watching a primetime Australian Open match that starts at 2:30am my time, its not really that bizarre because the only time zone that matters is where the match is being held.

Having a final on a Wednesday night is a little unusual - but this is the WTA Top 8 and not a regular tournament. Its been held in China recently and I dont remember it going on the same week as the ATP Finals. Even though the time zones are different, they probably didnt want the WTA semis/finals being held on the same days as the ATP Finals. Most of us only have so much time in a day to watch tennis.

Really interesting thing about women's tennis - Barty, Halep, and Muguruza are all Channel Slam winners (FO+Wimby) - on the men's side that list only includes the Big 3 in the 21st century.

Even funnier is they're all arguably better known for their hard court game. Perhaps Halep less so but:
Barty has 13 titles, 8 of which are on hard. 3 of which are WTA1000 titles + the YEC on hard courts yet her 2 slams are grass and hard.
Even stranger is Muguruza who has 10 titles, 8 of which are all on hard court. The only two that aren't? Wimbledon and French Open.

You'd think they'd have the hard court slams downpat but nope.

Muguruza wins in Guadalajara beating Kontaveit in straight sets. She becomes the first Spanish player to win the year-end WTA Finals!
