2021 WTA Indian Wells

Maybe chasing a bit, but made a bigger bet than normal for Vekic over Sharma. Vekic hasn't been great but she is still a class above Sharma.

Getting a little tilted by how many baseline line clippers Sharma is hitting.

Vekic gets some luck with the net cord winner though.

Starting to turn it around maybe. Consolidates the break for 3-1 in the 2nd.

Just won the first point on Sharma's serve with an incredible cc backhand pass too. And the next point is a classic Sharma one, forehand 15 feet long.

I'm sorry, but unless Kim loses a minimum of 20 lbs I don't see her having
any chance with her comeback.
There a lot of overweight WTA players that are top 50! They just keep rallies to a minimum and so weight is not that much of a factor. Weight in serve and return of serve is a bonus! Will not name any players since it is not PC for woman discussions in today's body image culture.

Kim's forehand certainly has some weight on it

If Kimmie can control the center of the court then she can win matches, because her groundstrokes are still right up there I think. Get her moving around a lot though and I think she gets into trouble. Similar thing we see/saw with Serena the past few years. I would not trust her to beat any big names though.

Also, I cashed out that Vekic bet for a 50 cent loss. This ended up being a lot dodgier than I thought.

Clijster just racking up the UEs now!
I'd say the physical fitness issue; and then extra 20 pounds too. Not playing with the top competitors for a while makes one more than just rusty and that especially at 36. Hard to replace the oncourt high level rallies when stakes are high with a treadmill

Halep was broken in doubles today.
Great volleys  , but serve not up to par.
This may spell trouble ... even with Kostyuk, not to speak of Raducanu.

Parrizas Diaz making so many errors when she's not even hitting the ball that hard. What's the point of trying to play like a grinder when you can't even keep balls in play.

Gotten way too many of my calls wrong this week already.

Kalinskaya's match.
This British commentator was great!
He used such colorful language that you NEVER hear from
his American counterparts.

Clijsters' standouts at her peak were her groundstrokes and her movement. You're right, feed her the ball and she's still dangerous and can out strike many players, but move her around at her current fitness level and you'll probably beat her in 3 at worst if you're a decent enough player. I'd love to see her back challenging and shocking some quite highly ranked players but from watching some of her match yesterday she really needs match practice which may require playing a fair few smaller tournaments playing much lower ranked players to get wins, confidence and match fitness. Siniakova isn't the epitome of consistency but she's a top doubles player so she has that variety to confidently play the whole court.

I just noticed that there are two threads on the same topic and as I see this trend on TTW, I am frustrated. Please, forgive me!

Interestingly, this one with 3 pages already seems to have started later than the other one with only one page of messages.

Go Indian Wells Go!

Should see some decent matches today but nothing that really stands out too much bet wise. Odds aren't great for most of them, and I'm not thrilled trying to call overs/unders or straight set wins for most of these. Maybe just wait for tomorrow because a few of those should be much easier to call. (Krejcikova under 19.5/20.5 against Diyas for sure)

Maybe would go Kudermetova over Samsonova, but Samsonova capable of playing really well. Probably a good one to take an over.

Swiatek over Martic might be a candidate. Haven't watched Martic in a long time though.

Svitolina over Martincova maybe. I know Terea has been good for a few weeks, but Svitolina is still a class above even with her basic game. Maaaybe Svito 2-0 here but I dunno.

Mertens been a bit hot/cold lately, but I think she shouldn't have that much trouble with Paolini. This is maybe one of the other best choices for today. Mertens 2-0 I think.

Teichman over Begu I think Teichman should probably handle this in straights but who knows.

And Rybakina Putintseva tonight... Rybakina should win for sure, but I'm not sure if it will be easy.

Elena should stand tall today!

Elena should stand tall today!
Yeah let's hope so. She was excellent last week until that semifinal where she was feeling sick. Great comeback against Bencic in particular (and then unfortunately Belinda had to retire :( )

She's just a bit streaky with her serve in particular. I think I saw two matches last week where she was serving below 50%, and then she turned it up for the Bencic match serving like 60% I think. The other thing is that Putintseva is going to make her play a lot of balls.

So I have Svitolina 2-0 in play and Kudermetova winner in play. Watching both of those + Swiatek (didn't bet this. Like her to win fairly comfortably, but odds not great)

fundrazer

Legend
And Svitolina is cruising so far on Martincova. 3-0 double break.

Kudermetova up an early break on Samsonova too. 2-0. serving to consolidate.

fundrazer

Legend
Blaah. Kudermetova saved 2 break chances to get to deuce, but more errors give Samsonova the break right back.

Martic barely able to keep balls in play.

fundrazer

Legend
Well kudermetova gets herself back up a break 3-1. Played a bit safer on the break point and Samsonova produced the error.

Looks like I missed the boat on Swiatek too. Just get a bit heasitant to call some of these matches when they set the total games like at 19.5/18.5. One tight set and it's done. Swiatek looking pretty sharp though.
