2021 Yonex VCore 95

Recently got a 2023 version to try out. So far I like 2021 better, which feels easier to swing and control. 2023 gives more power I feel, but maybe I need more time to adjust.

I've been playing with the 23 version too. Super fun sticks, not without its ups and downs. Feels like a wild child at times. Very direct stringbed and launch angles is quite high imo. Super fun stick if you playing like a mad man. If you're sitting back trying to find your groove you're bound to lose the point. Overall fun stick but lacks control. When the time comes, I'll get a 21 and compare. For now, there's a SV95 in my bag waiting for strings.

Just thought I will share my journey here.. I played with 21 VC95 for a couple of years and really loved and gelled well with the racket. The only shortcoming I found(for my game/level) was defending against big hitters. I switched to a TF40 315 and played with it till recently. I was able to defend well with the frame and it has a lot of feel as well, but it does lack the extra pop.

I recently demoed and have made the switch to Percept 97D. Even though its not from the VC line, it feels very similar to the VC95 but more forgiving due to the larger head. It has great control, pop and plow through and made me realize what I will missing with the TF40. I can flatten out high balls and absolutely crush them, feels so good :)

I'm probably still in the honeymoon period with this racket but would highly recommend the VC95 users to try it out.

2023 update:
Having tried the 2023 version and coming back to this racquet (2021 version) for my 3rd time (and as my main and only stick) I have some conclusions:

I have to say how balanced this racquet is in every aspect of the game both in specs and playability. Don’t underestimate a racquet that does everything pretty well but doesn’t excel in any area (I’m referencing Karue here since he was spot on with that quote). This racquet doesn’t give you any handicaps but it also doesn’t compromise any shots.

I can safely say this racquet is “the best of both worlds” in every aspect:

- Not flexible but not stiff, Goldilocks.
- 16x20 pattern, Goldilocks.
- 310 grams, not too heavy not too light.
- Works great stock, works great as a platform racquet as well.
- Comfortable
- Head shape is in between a Yonex head shape and a more traditional head shape.

A traditional player who loves the old classic feel or a Babolat pure drive player could love this frame. It’s just an easy frame to hit and go. Already stocked up with 4 racquets and some more grommets.

Why wait for the next version or the next racquet when I already have the perfect racquet for my game. No wonder I couldn’t find a good racquet after a year and a half of trying and testing, vc95 2021 was setting the bar so high.
100% agree with you, pal! I thought I'll never find a replacement for my all-time fave racket Yonex RDiS Tour 93. It's been a long journey and I tend to return to oldie but goodie RDiS. So glad I tried VCore 95 (2021) 3-4 months ago. While I realized the potential almost immediately, it took a month or even two to fully dial in and find the best strings and tensions but RDiS-es are happily retired now

So doesn’t everyone like the 2021 better than the 2023? I started using the 2023 I thought it’s an amazing racket
Depends on what you like in a racket more: control, feel, lower launch, predictability (2021) vs power, spin, more arm friendly, wilderness (2023)... overly simplified but about right!

Aptly put, when you say wilderness. I would say wildness for the 2023, and taming it somewhat, especially with the launch angle due to the wider spacing. I’ve been trying K-Pop in the 2023 but feel it needs a little more weight than what I have added(2grams distributed over 11&1) to make the string usable in the frame. Karue was rocking quite a bit of lead at 12 when he used to use it. I’ll probably go back to Head Lynx Tour as that’s a heavier string and will try the 16g at a lower tension, probably around 46lbs. The 2021 is definitely more predictable as mentioned above and I will find it hard to move away from this frame.

Yup, Head Lynx especially champagne 1.30 is a much stiffer/controllable one than K-pop. You'll tame the VC95 2023's "wildness" for sure especially at 50+lbs. Karue is/was stringing VC95 at 60+lbs which is a bit extreme for mere mortals like us!

I feel like the 2023 serves better than the 2021 but I currently don’t have the same strings on it. 2023 almost feels like an extended racket 95 puts the sweet spot higher and the wider hoop at the top makes it have more pop near the top,

I might revisit VC95 2023 at some point. I didn’t like that it was overly muted and flexy for my liking, a bit of wild and inconsistent response. Besides my FH/BH are both very spiny so no higher launch is needed. But I was comparing it to 93 sq in very stiff RDiS 1 Tour back then, comparing to VC95 2021 could be completely different. Who knows maybe VC95 2026 going to be a total game changer ;)

I'm side eyeing anyone that says the VC95 can be played in stock form.
It obviously depends on your level. 3.0-4.5s can totally play VCore95 in stock. It's actually heavier than most other frames typically used in that demo like Aero, Pure Drive, Blade, other Vcore-s, eZone-s etc. (all 290-305g static). And agreed, once you are 4.5+ you'll be bumping the SW for sure. Mine is at ~335 now.

no wonder i like this racquet so much in stock (only put on a leather grip), maybe it tells my level

It's only 5g heavier than an Ezone 98, Vcore 98, Aero, etc...and all of that 5g is in the handle/throat area which doesn't give it any noticeable extra stability.

Also comparing specs between rackets of different head sizes, string patterns and RA's is not helpful in my experience. A 95 doesn't have the same free power that a 98 has so the stock specs should be different. It would make sense for the Vcore 95 to be 315-320g unstrung actually.

I don't see many instances of 3.0-3.5 players playing with 95's

I would like to have VCore 95 Tour in 2026 line-up too
I'm not a fan of modding, dealing with tungsten/lead tape especially on Yonex-es with amazing QC to begin with.

I've seen 3.0-3.5s playing with a lot of frames they got no business in hitting with: RF97A, VCore Pro/Percept 97H or 97D, VCore 95, Rafa Origin etc...

I just want them to add back some of the flex /comfort / control of the previous (2018) version. I felt the recent one (2021) too stiff. Ideally they would also make it 320g but they won't do that. Or just more swingweight like the old version had (326g vs 315 in new one).
Which vcore 95 version has the lowest swingweight in stock form? Anybody know? Thanks

Would also be great to hear whether the 2021 or 2023 has a more connected, less muted feel? From my short hit, the 2021 was pretty muted.
IMO 2023 is even more muted and more flexy. To battle this muted feel of 2021, I replaced original grip with the thin leather one and I use [slightly] stiffer polys to add some crispy feedback. Vcore 95 2021 with Toroline Wasabi was way too mushy while stiffer Caviar and/or Super Toro (their hybrids) feel just right!
