Kind of rooting for Rublev to win RG (although, of course, it's extremely unlikely) just to witness Wimbledon doubling down on banning the current RG champion because - even though he opposes the war and has said so many times - he's still suspected of the thought crime of loving Putin and of the ethnic delinquency of being a Russian.

Djokovic was not winning Australia this year. He was woeful at WTF last year and his stamina has been a noticeable issue since Wimbledon.
Chasing the Calendar Slam was always high risk. It's not just the physical toll.its the mental toll.

No lol. After USO last year every pro I saw said Nadal was GOAT due to his Golden Slam . Djokovic was expected to win one of OG or USO to put him as GOAT but moment he lost both I did not see any reference to him as GOAT.
Might be different if he beats Nadal at RG to go level. However let's be honest If they meet and Nadal is fit a repeat of RG2020 is very likely.
Right now Nadal has other players much more of a threat to him at RG than Djokovic.

What about all the people on here who say Nadal could win the CYGS this year? If it's a high risk even for someone like Djokovic, surely it's a catastrophic risk for Nadal with his injury issues.

Just watched the highlights. Djoko was in pusher+defense mode for 90% of the match. He was completely devoid of energy. A couple times he went on offense then immediately switched back to defense. That's not going to win tournaments 
He was fortunate (or not) to extend it to 3 sets as he looked completely gassed at 5-5 in set 2.
If he shows poorly (not making at least the SF) at Madrid, Rome and RG, he'll be lucky to be inside the top 20 at the end of 2022.

Nadal is not winning a CYGS. If he wins FO I'm not even sure he would go to Wimbledon. Its slightly different as he would have a2 slam lead so realistically its all over so he could just give it a go and see what happens but I cannot see how he would get through 2 weeks at Wimbledon after Madrid Rome and RG of he had deep runs and won RG.
Realistically he would be better off not chasing the CYGS and going to tie the US Open record.
Also I have a feeling there may be a player revolt at Wimbledon as well. The players are very angry.

He looked tired at the Olympics USO and WTF last year as well so clearly there is more going on with him than we know.

No one has won the CYGS since Laver. I don’t see either Rafa or Novak achieving this now. It’s an extremely tough ask, open only to the winner of the AO each year. Not happening.
Not that it seems like a big deal to me. Why is winning a slam in a given order important? One of those picky records which doesn’t mean a whole lot other than it’s unusual.

In war; the victor does the declaring of war crimes! The U.S. until recently, never lost a war until the 1970s and beyond(NATO lead like in Iraq does not count)! The U.S. now is always loosing all it wars because the politicians are so weak and are for the most part total idiots! The U.S. military is so limited in how they fight the battles too while the other side can do anything they want including IEDs!
If he wins RG no I don't. I think last time he played more than 3 events back to back without injury was 2019. It seems to me more than 3 weeks tennis in close succession causes him problems. This may frustrate him but it's where he is at. He can still win Majors with little preparation as he has proved. However he doesn't feel like a tennis player doing that and I don't think he will play on unless he can play a fullish calendar. While we fans are obsessed with Majors the professionals actually value all tournaments.

Rublev has all the weapons for winning tournaments but has a tempter that sometimes; gets the better of him and he loose matches because of it!
We need to be honest here. Djokovic sabotaged himself with this tantrum. I get it, it is his body, his choice. But, the consequences of not playing till April, with one match in Dubai is huge. He lost the rhythm, the drive, he is not feared. Tennis is a sport where you need matches to keep your level up, you need to play against the best all the time, to be on top. I can be the top dog in practice, but when matches come, the experience is huge. It should not be that difficult for him to beat Rublev, or Kecmanovic, we all know that. But, it can be difficult for Novak that did not truly play any tennis since November 2021.
Still, Rafa came guns a blazing after several injuries and no matches. I am thinking that the psychological effects of being detained, having a trial for all to see, being dragged through the mud, and not in a way he is used to, was extremely hard and it will take a lot of time for him to recover.
