Emma Rads playing in the heat of the day? I hope she doesn’t wash out like Simona had to yesterday…

There's a heat advisory today, with temperatures hitting 95°F between 2pm-4pm. Considering how hot it gets there, I wonder why they start so late at noon.

A scorcher of a match, Samsonova vs. Tomljanović.
32C.
You can probably count the number of fans in the seats, on your two hands and feet!

It's funny, Tomljanovic has been on tour for more than a decade and I just discovered her
for the first time this year. :)

You can call her a journeywoman since she has been in top 100 for the last 10 years but never won a singles title. Anyway, after taking the first set, she let Samsonova to come back and lost the match in 3.

Geezus, Could the Tennis Channel tell the camera operator to keep from panning back and forth during a point? I got nauseated trying to watch a game.

Camila fighting back in this one.

Woaaah. That dropshot looked way too floaty and it ended up being absolutely perfect.

Osorio is up a break now. Raducanu starts the match better but Osorio catches up in the middle of the 1st set and forces Raducanu to play a lot of rallies.

Broken with 2 or 3 doubles when serving for set, 2 doubles on set points.

Holds at 15 to get us to breaker. lol

Emma actually plays a very nice TB there, 4 points in a row including 3 clean winners from 3-5 to 7-5.

Side note, did she bulk up a bit? She looks physically stronger than she did at Wimbledon

That's probably it. Seems like Emma has enough in the tank to wrap this up. Osorio too many errors in this set already and now she's under more pressure to break back.

A tired-looking Osorio manages to hold serve. Emma to serve 3-2.

And... a physio has been called for Osorio for what looks like an irksome blister on her right foot. Ewww, tv cameras zoomed in on her big toe with the blister...

She didn't bulk up, nobody bulks up that quick, she hired Tursunov.

He probably told her he wouldn't coach her unless she busted her ass off.

Apparently she was training at the IMG academy (former Bollettieri academy). Perhaps she has been introduced to the secret stuff.

It’s not a big difference but her arms look stronger imo.
Her arms look the same, they're relatively thin and girly still. Hopefully that doesn't change. She doesn't need to giorgify or tsurenkofy herself.

As for the "secret stuff", well, I wouldn't say it's impossible...

How did Emma manage to give away a love-40 return game? Credit to Osorio for hanging in there. Emma up 4-3.

Six unforced errors and a double fault and Emma gets broken, 4-all. I bet she's kicking herself for not breaking Osorio's last service game when she had her down love-40.

Man Donna Vekić had so much potential but she's obviously not right in the head. No lead is ever safe with this girl

Somehow this match is still going and now Emma has to serve to stay in the set. Physio called for somebody the ump says.

Physio is out for Emma.

How she hasn"t put this girl away I've no idea. So many chances to finish this off. If she doesn't win in two sets I can't see her recovering for the quarter final.

Thank god that's over. Osario is one of those irritating pests who just keeps the ball on a length, never seems to go for much.

Samsonova will be a much tougher test though.

Was that Raducanu match the longest WTA 2-setter ever? I think it was nearly 3 hours long.

ER definitely had her opportunity at 4-2 in the 2nd and then it all fell apart. Good work on her part to fight back and win that TB.

The heat sucks. But seeing how this has now become a combined atp/wta event shows you how much it’s growing. Impressive
