I feel like Ruud played smartly, he was moving Shapo around quite well. Shapo couldn't do it to Ruud at all, he just couldn't get him out of his comfort zone. If Shapo could hit a slice up the line it would have helped him a lot to setup a forehand to backhand rally, but instead he just kept hitting as hard as he could crosscourt or go for a winner DTL, and for the most part Ruud was moving well enough to not get stuck on his backhand.

Isner is in another (his third) M1K dubs final this year with a third different partner. He’s won with Sock (IW), Hurkacz (Miami) and now is a match away from the title with Schwartzman.

They are truly a sight to behold! BTW Isner made it to the semis in all other dubs events he played this year, including Madrid. He is truly the dominant doubles player this season. Maybe it's time to start transitioning and find a partner for the slams? True, he is still somewhat competitive in singles, but doubles could extend his career considerably and give him a chance at one or more major trophies.

Even at M1K level the payout for winning the Sunshine Double titles and now this final (at worst) are dwarfing his recent checks in singles. Men’s dubs winners get a UUUGGGEEE 406% increase over 2021 payouts.

His partners this year have been Fritz (ATP Cup), Hach Verdugo (Acapulco), Sock (Dallas, IW), Hurkacz (Miami, Madrid) and now Schwartzman. I’m not certain why he changed it up this week but the success should give him some degree of confidence he can be successful with a pretty wide variety of players.

IMO, a permanent pairing with Sock would make sense if both of them want to focus on dubs only. They have won IW twice and Sock definitely knows about going deep at slams.

The odd couple saved match points in both the 2nd and 3rd set then had one of their own on 9-10 in the decider, but little Diego's forehand return sailed one millimeter wide on a Mektic 2nd serve. From there, the Crabby Croats went on to take the final 3 points and claim their first title since last year's Olympic gold.

Isner has 3 kids now, not sure if he wants to be closer to home. he mentioned retiring Soon. Maybe he is trying with lots of different folks to find a partner.
