2022 Mallorca Open

I'll admit I don't keep up with ol' Meddy a whole lot other than seeing him on TC when I'm watching it...but I'm just not sure I'm following this train of thought about him standing a very good chance of winning Wimbledon. Did catch some of the match yesterday against Bautista Agut and Meddy simply got owned to say the least. This makes three in a row on grass in the L column...not the W column. Maybe I'm just missing something here altogether.
Just shows that the media really don't get into tennis that much; they just believe that as the world #1 he's bound to be in the running for the title.

RBA vs Stefanos final. First final on grass for Tsitsipas. RBA is the better grasscourter and is the logical favorite. But hope we have a competitive final. They could possibly meet again at Wimbledon which makes this match intriguing.

Tsitsipas has never lost to RBA before, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out on grass.

All the people here saying Citybus was useless on grass... how little you understand pro tennis.

He might actually win on this terrible court, which has more misbounces than most.

People here either trash a player as useless on a given surface or they glorify them as gods and winners of 28 slams.

No middle ground.

I agree. I was almost about to create a post on this.

Surface homogenization or no surface homogenization, not even the big 3 were racking up quarterfinals on every surface at the beginning of their career. Truthfully, I think it helps when you get your first Slam, you can relax a bit more and focus on other surfaces. Just look at Medvedev -- two finals on grass and he's not exactly a natural by any means.

Getting that first slam win is huge for a career.

Unless you're on the WTA which means your career at the top is over.

Worst grass surface ever.

Mud.

And then people ask for MORE grass. Weird.

And often people who hate clay want more of a surface that has a bounce 30 times worse than clay.

Amazing run for Stef! Love the fact that he’s putting in so much work on grass and not getting discouraged by early results. He’s now fast developing a functional slice that is so key on this surface. It’s not a weapon yet, but he’s been using that fairly well all week. And RBA played a very good match today. This must be a huge confidence boost for Stefanos ahead of Wimbledon. He has the game for this surface. He’s just slowly putting it together.
Has a tough Wimbledon draw. Would be delighted if he can make the second week somehow.

3R has my Kyrgiosity up. 4R may be a RBA rematch. Decent quality section, far superior to the joke in Section 3.

Interesting that Tsitsipas won. Generally, when people have been talking about the Wimbledon draw, they've been sticking to Nadal's projected draw until the semis when they pick Berrettini over Tsitsipas. Berry vs Tsitsy QF could be good!

I won’t completely rule out Stefanos against Nick. He played Kygs pretty close on fresh grass in Halle last week. And Wimbledon is bound to be slower. Stef will have his chances.

Title #9 for Tsitsipas, 6th at ATP250 level, 2nd this season (following 2022 Monte Carlo) and 1st on grass. Will this boost his chances at Wimbledon?

Stefanos rarely gets a mention in Wimbledon discussions on here. This title will boost his confidence so he goes into next week under the radar.

Med, Stef and RBA have such lopsided H2H against each other. Med is 7-2 or something against Stef. RBA is 4-1 over Med. Stef is 3-0 over RBA.
Matchups.

RBA's steady game cannot be disrupted by Med's crazy ball. Med's crazy ball sends Tsitsipas into a tizzy. RBA's steady game is not enough to send Stef into a tizzy.

I think he has approached it more sensibly this year, apart from his first year playing there where he was a bit of unknown(3rd) he has rather got caught up in his own hype , he played Queen’s very high profile (dismissed by FAA ,who also was on a hype train of his own at that time) other than that Roland garros has taken his focus . I didnt think he played a grass court warm up after defeat to Djoker
This year he played rather low key in 3 tournies , trying to find his Feet
Having Said all that , i dont expect him to win Wimbledon . But he could make his ranking postion, although berry could be a tough ask
