2022 Mixed Nationals

NorCal won 18+ Mixed Nationals this weekend at both 7.0 and 9.0, and there are few 4.0 men who were on BOTH teams.

It looks like the same guys were also on an 8.0 mixed team that went 11-0 (33-0 in matches!) in their regular season but were shockingly upset in their local playoffs. The team that beat them finished fifth at 8.0 Nationals (won by SoCal). They will also be playing at 40+ Mixed 7.0 Nationals this coming weekend.

They could get a chance for even more mixed championships next year. The three 4.0 guys might each get 4.0C ratings this year - according to Tennisrecord they are much higher rated in Mixed compared to Adult leagues.

I think this is the situation that inspired these threads from earlier this year:

Wow you're right, NorCal is apparently the mixed doubles powerhouse. Looks like they have a 5.0 woman who played on both the 9.0 and 10.0 champion team. She, at least, is not holding back in Adult leagues, as her 5.0 women's team fished second at 18+ Nationals and she went 6-0 there. I wonder if she'll get the 5.5 bump.

The same core group of guys also just qualified for Tri-Level Nationals for the second straight year. They went 6-0 (18-0) during sectionals, dropping only two sets throughout. Coincidence that NorCal doesn’t count that event for year-end ratings and their men’s results suddenly match their mixed results?

I'm good friends with those on Team TikTok that finished fifth at 8.0 Nationals. NorCal is the best!!!!

She is a friend of mine and a very good doubles player. She should definitely be 5.5

There is zero question in my mind that there are players who play better in the mixed format than they do in regular adult league ... and vice versa.

I guess similar to that some are better singles vs dubs players, it only makes sense that this format is good for some and worse for others.

There is zero question in my mind that players who win 80% or more of their matches year after year, continually go to Nationals, and never get bumped up (or get bumped DOWN) are cheating.

I fail to understand why NorCal does NOT count Tri-Level for ratings. 3.5's play 3.5's, 4.0's play 4.0's and 4.5's play 4.5's. No self-rated players. Makes zero sense to me, it's just like an Adult League match except only 1 line.

Maybe but but there is this - That 4.0 who never loses at Mixed and Tri-Level was suspended this year for rating manipulation. Coincidently his suspension ended the day Tri-Level started - he showed up killed everyone.
No idea why his suspension didn't cause a bump up but as a long time 4.0 I'd say he's a high level 4.5.

How is it that some sections can count tri-level and other sections don't? I would think that would ruin the consistency of the rating between sections.

It's because grievance committees cannot bump C-rated players (they can for self-rated ones).

You can, and it happened in this case and the player was suspended for 3 months. The grievance committee cannot move him up to 4.5, however, as a C-rated player.

Oh yea, I know who you are talking about. He lost to a 3.5 guy in singles 6-0, 6-0. He is a predominantly a doubles player but there is still no chance he lose to a 3.5 0 and 0. And he has been doing this for years. Players in Norcal know who I am talking about!

According to tennisrecord, this fellow is close to being bumped down to 3.5 lol. But the majority of that core group all seemingly tank. So even if they get rid of one, many others will take his place. Not to mention, with the amount of recruiting he does, I doubt they'll have trouble replenishing their coffers

I am not sure if mixed doubles counts at all toward your rating if you have a c rating.

USTA mixed doubles is a mess. I also know a 5.0 female player. I think it is pretty much impossible for her to get bumped to 5.5 because there are not 5.0 leagues.

Hopefully USTA will fix the issues with WTN and be able to use that for mixed doubles ratings.

My money is that they'll just a new roster of sandbaggers he'll captain
The 10.0 MX squad had former D1 top 60 in the country #1 singles, self rate as 5.0, she got bumped to 5.5 but should've been 5.5 all along. Another group of 4.5 dudes are sandbagging all over the place, multiple teams. Predict one will lose all his 5.0 matches like 2 years ago to get bumped back down, so sad what some will do to win a national title.
