2022 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic - San Jose (WTA500)

And the draw troll strikes again...

Rybakina, because she isn't seeded as she should be, gets a fellow top 10 player in R1.

(Kasatkina is 6th in the Race Rankings.)

What a joke.

What a joke.

I am really hoping I get to see this match Monday night.
Will only be there Monday and Thursday nights. Rather then the Keys/Zhang match, as they played each other last year.

Hilarious.

Boulter beat Pliskova in the last two events they played.

They meet for the 3rd time in a row.

Will Pliskova try this time?

On the bright side I guess we can't be disappointed by another loss if she doesn't even play.

Also, I was jokingly thinking that the boyfriend is the problem. Just occurred to me again that she was literally on vacation in Finland. We all know what that means.

@I Am Finnish (dunno if you even pay attention to WTA but have to tag you here...lol)

Conchita is the problem.

Taylor Townsend has a chance to past R1, hopefully!
We also might get Osaka Gauff 4th edition, and Andreescu v Sakkari.

Wild final prediction: Anisimova beat Osaka (For the 3rd time this year)

I watch WTA at times but I'm not from Finland

huge upset in qualifying. world #21 Teichmann lost to #238, American Elizabeth Mandlik - Hana Mandlikova's daughter!
@suwanee4712

Why was Teichmann in qualifying despite being #21? Guessing she missed the entry cutoff and decided to play qualies... didn't work out well for her...

Some real great potential matches in San Jose.

R2 possible matches:
Sakkari v Andreescu
Pliskova v Anisimova
Keys v Jabeur
Gauff v Osaka
Riske v Badosa

Also, Washington has a fantastic field for an International.

Venus in with a wildcard.
US Open champ Raducanu the #2 seed.
2x slam champ Halep the #3 seed.
Azarenka v Yastremska in a 1R match.
Tomljanovic v Sloane is another juicy 1R match.
Sofia Kenin in with a wildcard.

Shapo's GF lost.

Can D Minor's GF do better?

Boulter beat Pliskova in their last two matches, three events in a row that they face off.

Pliskova already down several breaks.

Quick 3-0 for DK.

[typical TTW post]Cleary Elena sucks, one-Slam wonder, will never win again, WTA is awful.[/typical TTW post]

Bagel delivered, that was quite the match turnaround after set 1.

@coolcamden deserves a refund!
Amazing how flat ER shots are in real life. It all turned around in the 2nd set. They played a long game when DK broke for 2-1, then later ER had 4 Ad-Outs and couldn’t convert. Over after that.

Elizabeth Mandlik looking solid against Alison Riske Amitraj. Rallied from 0-3 and took the first set, 6-3.

Elizabeth Mandlik takes down Allie Riske Amitraj, 3&3, for her first WTA main draw win. She looks determined to move up in the ranks. Her mother is Hana Mandlikova who won 4 Grand Slams so she’s got the pedigree.

It's nice for coolcamden to watch Dasha vs Elena match live. It seems to me after the first set, Dasha started putting more top spin to Elena's BH and more flatter shots to Elena's FH. That disrupted Elena's rhythm and a lot of error from Elena as the result.

You are right. In the 1st set, ER was very aggressive and caught DK in a bit of a surprise. Evidence in the service game, even she was serving DK was retreating to 10 feet behind the baseline, while ER would not budge from it. Blasting flat balls at almost twice the speed of DK. Then DK changed tactics like you’d observed, and the 2 games in the 2nd set, where she broke ER at 2-1 and would not be broken after giving 4 Add-Outs broke ER spirit. The deciding set ER was just blasting all out, much like Ostapenko, and making a ton of UE’s. The style contrast was very much appreciated in real life.

Just like that.

I guess we can give up hope for Ryba, she seems to be on her way to a radical raducanulization.
