2022 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic - San Jose (WTA500)

It‘s her first tournament, on a different surface. She probably didn‘t train much in July.
She didn't, she took a long vacation, but considering how tough the WTA tour is (almost anyone can beat anyone in the top 100), she will struggle to establish herself at the top.

I hope she can get it together, but we know how recent first-time slam champs have done, nearly all of them poorly.

Love how more and more women are ditching the skirt.
Amanda, case in point. :)
Is that a bulge in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

That doesn't help her in the match vs Pliskova. Down a set and a break already :)

Edit: she breaks back. Maybe that helps.

All you gotta do against Pliskova is play some angles and throw in a drop shot here and there. She moves like a cow on ice, make her run and she's toast.

Why is Pliskova's serve so effective?
1. She's tall
2. Her service motion is extremely simple.
3. She just has to point and shoot (there's little that can go wrong).

Ani Simova is 0-4 against Pliskova, hopefully she can finally defeat her.

After all, this is Anisimova's best season so far - and Pliskova's worst since a decade, probably.

Come on, now, defeat the stork finally.

Wow, I blinked (turned off the feed for the 3rd set) and
then just checked the score and Amanda blitzed her the 3rd set 6-1 !
What the heck happened? Anyone?

She did lead the 3rd set tie-break 5-2 at the U.S. Open last year but couldn't close the deal.

She looked more confident than she was in the first set. In the second game she broke, she hit 3 return winners before KP made 1 DF apparently because of the result of the pressure AA put on.

WTA's Lost Gen :-D
Nah, WTA tennis is good, at least compared to men's. Plenty of good players not afraid to topple the top 10.

50 to 100 women can win a slam, and when we compare that to 5-10 men's players who can win a slam, or even less... Pitiful.

Ah man that’s tough to see. 3 double faults and total mental collapse at 5-4 serving for it… Mandlik still in it though. She’s better from the ground than Badosa today. Straight up.

Wow, triple (or quadruple?) mega choke from Mandlik. Takes a true master to outchoke Badosa. The American has some intriguing tools and will surely be back - the mental strength is suspect, but that's never stopped anyone in yhe WTA.

that was a level of choking that I'm not sure even I could have expected. Crazy bc the match was mostly on her racquet from the 2nd set onwards... She just couldn't get a serve in those two games, her racquet head speed dropped so much. Must have frozen up out there. You can understand of course.

I think Badosa clearly was a bit out of form but definitely promising signs for Mandlik. This was genuinely her first WTA Tour level tiebreak.
