Tiafoe, sure. Guy hasn't won a title in a long time. But Fritz has won 2 titles this year, including a masters event. A better year than Shapo.

That was a great performance, agreed. To the eye, his level in Asia has been very good though. Shapo had struggled at AO before playing Zverev. Kwon had him on the ropes in 2R. He also couldn’t close his comeback attempt vs Nadal in the following round. In Seoul/Tokyo, he seems to have found a nice groove that has been missing since his back to back SFs at Queen’s Club/Wimby’21.
With his positive h2h vs Fritz, Tiafoe and Kwon he has a great shot to notch his second title.

In reality, no title is easy. Last week I heard Nishioka came out of nowhere, discounting his 5-match winning streak to reach the Washington final just three months ago. In that run he beat 4 tomato cans with previous titles.

Considering Shapo's talent, he should be winning these titles. Especially as the guy hasn't won a single title in 3 years while barely reaching finals too.

Tiafoe taking advantage of an opened up draw so far. Though all due credit; he's played well. And he is the No. 4 seed, so while he avoided a seed in the QF and now in the SF, Ruud is the only higher seeded player he avoided due to upsets.

For Shapovalov, it all comes down to consistency. When he has it, he is wonderful, but when he loses it (for unknown reasons), he struggles. But, when his game is together, he is wonderful to watch.

Nice of Tiafoe and Fritz to make the final. Fritz - a nice rebound from a dismal USO. Tiafoe - avoiding a post-USO drop off. Yeah, I know it's a 500 and they're not beating the very top guys, but still, nice results.

There are lots of talented guys at his level. Shapo has a high ceiling, but he also plays a high risk, so he's not going to be as consistent as guys in the top 10.

It definitely shows that the story of the match was Tiafoe fighting to stay in tight service games while Fritz cruised. Not surprised, given those numbers, that Fritz won both tie-breaks.
