Holgar and Carlito is the dream final :D He better mess up Mr. 250 in the next round after this. The way he totally shot down getting all sappy in his on-court interview because "we still in quarter finals" was all the sign you needed he has the head for it.

The Great Age Shift… has reversed.
I don't think we'll see teenagers winning slams anymore, but at least seeing teenagers succeed has put a damper on the tennis being more physical than ever idea.

I mean, the idea was faulty as early as last year when 34 year old Djokovic nearly won the CYGS, but it's nice to get further confirmation.

People getting ahead of themselves, as per usual.

No teenager has won a slam since 2005.

And even if one of these two kids wins FO (or USO), in all likelihood there will again be a long drought until another teen wins a slam. Because if Rune and Alcatraz start dominating, they will dominate as 20somethings, vs a younger batch that's not worthy... History in cycles.

Well, we still will have 3 Slams to see it happen with the 2003 cohort

Remind me again... how many guys younger than 34 hold slam titles right now?

You may not know.

Two.
Two outliers have won all of them. No one else their age is winning or even reaching the finals of majors, Masters, etc.

Edit: I mean to be clear there has been a shift. Teens aren’t gonna start dominating the majors. Most guys don’t seem to hit their peaks till 25 or so now – later than in the past. But 30+-year-olds aren’t, outside of two extreme outliers, dominating the tour. The Great Age Shift as an excuse for the failings of the Lost Gen is crumbling, as it should.

I am glad you found out that's there's two of them...

Thanks to my previous post.

I mean, they were easy to miss, so few of them... So I understand why you might not have known.

So now we have Alcaraz and Rune to represent the hopes and aspirations of the TTW community. Please remind me how are they called again? The nex nex nex generation? I hope you guys are ready for another disappointment.

BabyGen.

Rune even has the face to match the name.

I've been calling them New Gen. Maybe we call it the Alcarune Gen? I dunno. I mentally started a new generation at year 2000, though.

With all the destruction happening on the other side, he might get lucky. You never know. Not the most likely scenario but not impossible.
I could easily see one of the 35 year old geezers getting to final but then getting injured during final.

Congrats to Rune, great tournament for him. Sad effort from Tsitsipas. He shouldn’t be losing on his favourite surface like this in the prime of his career. I don’t think he’s ever going to win a slam.
Tsitsipas played at his usual level for this tournament, and just got outplayed.

Does Tsitsipas have an anxiety disorder? He seems to always be in a rush on court and has looked like he's completely in his own world in the last few interviews I have seen. Mats Wilander had to even awkwardly end one of them when he was still speaking I believe lmao.

Yes but he shouldn’t be getting outplayed by a teenager at his favourite slam at this point in his career. Rune is good but he’s no 19 year old Nadal retrieving insane balls. I think this just verifies that Tsitsipas will probably end up having a Ferrer like career.
Rune at age 19 is already better than Tsitsipas in his prime.
