Yeah I guess its tennis at the end of the day but it was just ugly to watch. Either way, I think most people will agree Tsonga will have a better career than Ruud ever will...

I read an article about him the other day speaking to his injury struggles and the decision to retire. It prompted me to look at his Wiki page and he really did have a nice career, better overall than I remember. People mention the lack of a Slam, but so be it. He was a true contemporary of the Big 3, formerly Big 4, when they were in their prime. He says he has regrets, but I think he can walk away with his head held very high.

Won't lie, think many players would have done some other things in a tiebreak for an injured player who had no chance like Tsonga but Ruud didn't, perhaps but that's for another day, Just my opinion.

When hundreds of thousands of dollars are one the line and grinding your whole life to be at this stage and fight for every round especially grand slam matches I don't think you would give out some pity points either. The only thing infront of you is to win, not feel sorry for your opponent and give out points in a 4th set TB. I don't think you should be judging ruud for that. Sometimes I really think you live in some fairy tale world.

Agreed. I guarantee that Tsonga doesn't want pity points and doesn't think Ruud should have done anything other than what he did. These are professional athletes; they understand what's at stake and the sometimes cruel nature of the game.

I do have one question though... had Jo actually won this match, were they gonna keep this whole big production bottled up until the next round, and the next one, and the next one..?

Yes, obviously. One or two of the lads might not have been there anymore, which would have been slightly less special, but the rest would have worked.

Yea I know. I think he's the best player of that era to not win a Slam. Probably would snatched a Slam if he played in the 90s.
It’s tough between him and Berd. Both deserved a slam imo.
Wish we could swap their ages with someone like Shapo or Rublev.

Jo had a great career millions of tennis players would gladly accept.
$22M in prize money. His endorsements eclipse that for sure.
SF twice at French, and twice at Wimbledon
F - AU Open
2 Masters 1000 Titles

And even if his overall records vs. the Big 3/4 aren't great - he beat ALL of them multiple times (Djoker and Fed - 6 times, Nadal - 4 times, and Murray - 2 times), and also beat all of them at least once at a Slam (only he, Wawrinka, and Berdych can claim that). That's something.

Best french player of the 4 musketiers
He had some epic wins over the big 4
Muggeteers?

Honestly, the French under-performing in every generation is very disappointing. So much talent, so much underachievement.

Admittedly, in Tsonga's case injuries were a major factor, and at least he is a multi M1000 winner.

Out of a group of very good French players of his generation, he was definitely the best of the bunch.

Highest ranking
Tsonga: 5
Monfils: 6
Simon: 6
Gasquet: 7

Most ATP titles, and the only one to make a GS final.
Won 2 Masters, while the others all made multiple finals, but never won any.
