This is the man who applied and I believe gained UK citizenship to play Davis Cup for GB. GB didn't even want him and now he and Djokovic have a dedicated match thread:unsure:

Another training match for Djokovic. Straight sets.

What's the point of all these Djokodal vs mugs threads? I know they've declined, but not like this.
I wonder when they would decline sufficiently to lose to players like this? Theoretically could a 60 year old Federer or Djokovic beat Bedene?

Bencic and Fernandez going into a third set so Djokovic / Bedene won't start for another hour or so... So frustrating.. Hope either one wins the third with a bagel...

Gotta ask why they put the Bencic match on the PC court in the first place. Even if it was just two sets it was going to seriously push back the mens #1.
This stinks.

For those wondering at home this is why women don’t play 5 sets. There quite literally wouldn’t be enough time to play enough matches per day.

Bad idea IMO, the sudden shock of going for best of 3 to best of 5 is not good. ATP players at least play their ways into form for the big matches in the semis and finals by facing lesser players.
Well that’s how the WTF and Masters used to be, and how it should be. Finals should always be BO5 imo.

Bencic was leading 2:0 and serving, and gets broken naturally... Back on serve now... This match will run close to three hours..

How much of a sudden shock would you say it is? Sauna to the cold plunge?
Is there a risk of heart attack? I can’t possibly see how there’s no way a player could adjust to playing another hour or two for finals.

Fair comment although not in round three it’s not.

Do you really expect these two, not to meet in the quarters? They are not facing world beaters in the third round either. Both will have a bit a challenge in the fourth round, but that is it. They basically have the same draw here.

Well imagine you are having someone run 5 miles every day, they are conditioned to it, then out of nowhere you add on another 3 miles, you can imagine the physical impact from the sudden shock in physical requirement.

There is no such thing as a tough draw anymore.

But men are still more conditioned to best of five by playing four slams each year from round one on....women are not. Its not really the same.

I remember once Graf and Hingis played a best of five, and Hingis said she was shocked about how she was incapable of doing anything because she felt dead on her feet as the match extended.

Imo best of 5 finals for women would lead to low quality attrition contests, at least at the beginning of the transition.

When you consider the ticket prices and massive exposure a Grand Slam final gets, the organizers will surely want the best chance of a high quality evenly fought match.

It behooves absolutely no one to see two ladies dead on their feet in a final set, or worse one sustaining an injury or having to retire.

I think Bo5 for women will never happen.

There’s more chance of men going all BO3 than female finals being BO5, sadly.
Zod rejoices.

I don’t get why you want this to end so bad. Novak is going to absolutely destroy Bedene who is a complete mug. This is much more hard fought and entertaining.

Because it just passed 11 PM here and I am running on 3-4 hours of sleep for the past few days

I know a certain crybaby who probably complains somewhere about Djokovic being a servebot.
