One probably would have said similar about Cilic before he caught fire in 2014. I mean he was no foreigner to grand feats of muggery himself. I can think of countless examples. Say what you want about FAA but he's surely the best athlete along with Alcaraz out of the younger crop of guys (by quite some margin I think), and that can get you a pretty long way. I don't think it's unrealistic for him to put one really good run together at some point. I mean he peaked higher than Medvedev in their AO QF earlier this year. The match was on his racket. Med's success in that match was almost purely dependent on FAA spraying and mugging up. If he can clean up his game there's something there, especially in this era.

I mean even if he plays clutch his game doesn't have Cilic's peak, period. Him winning a slam would be poor for that reason. Cilic has always been mentally questionable but was known to possess a powerful level based on his 2010 AO run at least, edging del Potro and Roddick in back-to-back five-setters with some good tennis. Aliassime is yet to do anything like that, actually what would even be similar in these times.
