To be fair, Djokovic doesn't need to pass him, he just needs to equal him. He has all the other numbers. But yeah, I don't see Nadal stopping at 22 to be honest, I think he has a few left to win.
The Slam H2H favours Nadal though. What is it like 11-7 or something now in Slams?

The amount of bitterness in here is overwhelming. Fed is gone folks. He’s going to be left in the dust like Pete. Move on and accept reality.
Fed is gone, and now I cheer for Rafa.
But anyway, how lucky this cabronazo is!! Ombelivable!!

An overlooked fact is that the match was with the roof closed, which favors any big server.

In spite of that Zverev had 8 DF, with an open roof that coulda been twice as much.

Nadal deserved to win.
He didn’t deserve to win the 2nd set the way he was playing.

True but I think it's the one that counts most. That's how people judged Federer, Sampras, etc in the GOAT discussions.
That's right, Slams are the gold standard of tennis greatness.

Nobody ever talk about Rod Laver winning Rome, or Borg winning Hamburg, or if Sampras won Monte Carlo, all they talk is about slams.

Sure, but some like me don't believe in GOATs. Imagine how many Laver could have won if he was not banned as a professional from playing. You can only be the best of your own era IMO, which Nadal is right now.

Just woke up to the news about Zverev.

I try not to say "X player got lucky" but c'mon. This is the most unbelievable stroke of luck.

I freely admit Fed got lucky in the Wimbledon Final vs Cilic. This has to be up there w/that.

F'ing ridiculous. GG Rafa.

Wow! Had to leave home at 1 all in the second and I hit the record button and made sure not to check scores….after getting back I was all involved in that epic second set and then saw what happened. Damn that’s awful! Looked just terrible! I hope Sascha will be okay. I’m no big fan of his but I just found out I like him a lot more than I knew! What a shame. Damn. Nobody deserves that. Ugh.

You woke up and thats the first thought? Not omg I hope Zverev is ok?

Now make sure you don’t read the pages in here if you don’t want the sadness part to be replaced with disgust at the posters here.

And what said is that Nadal deserved to win the match, not a specific point, game or set, just the match.

And I was basing this opinion, on the fact that slams tournies, are supposed to be played outdoors, playing indoors favors big servers.

Zverev is a big server, but even with that unfair advantage, he made 8 double faults, Nadal only 1.

You can only imagine how many more DF Zverev would have made with an open roof, and the more DF he made, the less he deserved to win.

So, that led me to conclude that Nadal deserved to win, regardless of the injury.

I have no love for the guy and one could argue that this is karma biting him on the ass for his toxic and abusive behavior. Not shedding a tear for him, although obviously it is unfortunate and I would have liked to see him win the match for many reasons.

How about Federer against Mannarino at Wimbledon last year? Nadal isn't the only player to benefit from his opponent retiring. It has happened to Djokovic and Federer too.

Lendl against Edberg in the 1990 Australian Open final is another example.
:notworthy:

Someone was saying on Twitter that natural surfaces (clay/grass) should not be played under a roof as the humidity alters the surface, and may have been a reason for Zverev injury, ie he didn’t slide, his foot got caught
The last time RG was played under the roof was in much cooler conditions
I don’t like it a Wimbledon when they play under the roof because the grass does become slippy
Maybe they have a point

You are one classy dude (y)

I live by a code, man. I have a lot of sympathy to give, but it's not infinite and it's not unconditional. I have tried to root for Zod but he lost me with the violent behavior.

If you think a guy who pretty clearly abused his GF and attacked an umpire with a racquet is deserving of sympathy here....

My post was literally 4 lines, with a mention of Fed on Line 3.

Did you just read Lines 1 & 2?

Yes, I gotta say Nadal took delay of game tactics to a new level in this year's FO. Even on return he's been making the server wait by taking his time to... wait for it.... fold his towel after toweling off after every point. I've come to like him and respect him but this was really ridiculous today. Folding the f'ing towel while the server is standing there waiting for you to get ready to return.
Though I like Nadal, Yeah if he is really folding the towel then he should be docked a point. IT is ridiculous

Not really. Nobody will remember this if nadal wins the french open. It’s a shame what happened to zverev . Now if zverev was up a set and going to a tiebreaker maybe i would have felt this way.
You never know sports is unpredictable nadal was pretty gassed.. It did feel like the momentum for the tiebreak was with nadal and def going up to sets to love their would be zero doubt…
