I don't disagree....but that's partly being more the aggressor....he made Nadal uncomfortable a little. I was surprised he could keep it up for four full sets, and of course, I think Rafa was not at his best.
 
Rublev is a bit similar to Ruud in that they both have a somewhat limited ceiling but tries to make up for it by being effective and stick to the plan. Unlike Ruud though, Rublev is really prone to self destruction under certain circumstances. And it seems like it’s only getting worse? His meltdowns happens every other day now.
 
A buck thirty ace to close the TB redeems the brain fart on the previous point. Tiafoe up a set. Wayne Ferreira looks to extend his h2h over Fernando Vicente to 4-2 overall and 2-1 as Tiafoe box man. Their playing rivalry wasn’t extensive but it was close, with two of the matches going to three sets.
 
That was a very important first set to win for Tiafoe. It feeds his belief, gets the crowd behind him, and let's doubt creep into Rublev's mind.

Both players looked nervous to me in that tiebreaker. However, I liked the fact that Tiafoe took the aggression and attacked the net. Lucky for him that miscue on the lob was at 6-2 and he was able to serve it out with an ace on the next point.

Rublev is high strung and reverts to hitting wildly when under pressure. If Tiafoe can avoid a let down, I think this match is his to win.
 
Angry Rublev has returned. That didn't last long.

I think the USTA must has sent down some decree that nobody is allowed to attack the Tiafoe second serve? There's no way what he's doing is tactical? :-D

True point. I do think alcaraz moves and returns better on hard courts than grass. On grass he couldn’t get anywhere near sinner serves.

No one is stepping in and attacking his second serve. The moment they get into a rally he comes out on top more often than not
If he makes the semis Sinner / Alcaraz won't be as generous though.

Tiafoe has beaten Sinner and Alcaraz previously and both of those guys were almost dispatched from this tournament in earlier rounds by lesser opponents. Tiafoe is playing great tennis right now with variety. I wouldn’t count him out. I hope the crowd continues to cheer him hard.

If the latter, surely it has to be "77 years"?

His first serve today has been great so far, 75%.

Frankly in the years to come anyone of these guys could break the top 5 at some point in their careers, staying there consistently will be the difficult bit - Tiafoe can if he continues to work on his issues
He's already come a long way in the last couple of years

Alcaraz was in position to challenge Sinner’s service games but was 0 for 7 on BPs. He was also 0 for 9 on BPs in the Umag final. He can return on any surface but his BP conversion rate is fedresque, not only vs Jannik.

Yeah - Rublev has to punish him more on second serve return, or it could be a long day.
