yeesh, Sabalenka let Iga off the hook there rather than Iga won it. Tossing in short balls, Aryna just snatched at a couple shots and sent them long.

I can't say I trust Sabalenka to stay calm on serve here at all.

If I'm Swiatek, just keep the points in play - make Sabalenka keep hitting.

Ons winning would be cool. Iga irks me for some reason. Not sure why. Something about her fanboying nadal I feel is creepy

Only because Rafa is going bald.

As I said, no idea how she made it this far. Stephens (the old Stephens lol), Niemeier, Pegula are all better HC players. Swiatek will dominate on clay, on HC she'll always be a non factor at majors

How is Iga a non-factor when she is about to make a major final?

Lol how everyone went "Sabalenka implodes", "never in doubt Iga" like she's Novak in his best days. This match is entirely on Sabalenkas racquet. If she plays halfway decent, Swiatek has no chance.

Sabalenka has been playing halfway decent and Swiatek still has an excellent chance at triple match point.

And that's it, Iga Swiatek wins the last three games to take the final set 6-4.....well done. Will play Ons Jabeur Saturday afternoon for the championship. Aryna Sabalenka gave it a shot - she needs to figure out a way to get to the finish line better and make the right adjustments.

GSM Iga. She survived Sabs slapping shots. I would think Jabs is feeling pretty, pretty good about her chances. Iga's gonna have to play the final like that 3rd set if she expects to hoist the USO trophy.

This match is unpredictable. So Sabalenka will probably hold.

I was hoping I'd be wrong, but it went exactly like I thought it would.

I like Swiatek and think she's great at what she does, but I was rooting for Sabalenka because she has so much potential and can't seem to get it together. This was her third semifinal where she lost 6-4 in the third set and I feel like if she won one of these, she might be able to relax and start playing dominating tennis like she is capable of.

Best two players in the world this year meet in the final major's final. Weirdly expected something crazy and we ended up something normal.
WTA is more predictable than ATP at this US Open, when was the last time that was the case? Probably early 2000s pre-Fed, no?

I would've been fine if Sabs got through, too. But I think Iga-Jabs fight will be a better overall quality match and hopefully last longer than 1 hour.

sad...Sabalenka will be crushed getting so close to a final again and falling short. Not mad that Iga is in the final with some of the shots she came up with.

I feel like Sabalenka will be another Madison Keys story...talked about for years as potential to win a major with ability to hit anyone off the court, but just can't string enough wins together.

I do feel bad for Sabalenka. It seems she just can't break through that semi final wall. Her last 2 US Open semis were very winnable matches and she lost both.

It is great to see Swiatek shut up some of her delusional haters in this thread though, who are talking like she isn't even a top 40 performer off of clay. If she wins the title this weekend, which I think she probably will even if it isn't a sure thing, there will be some real salt in here.

You're pretty contradictory in asserting how awful Swiatek is while she reaches the final at the same time you praise Garcia for playing so well for reaching but losing in the semifinal.

In fairness Swiatek is the world #1. More should be expected of her than Garcia, and in a sense Garcia playing so well to reach the semis is more impressive on a personal level than Swiatek reaching the final (which should not be that surprising, despite her rep as largely a clay courter).

But that wasn't the expectations as expressed in this forum after the quarters when Garcia waxed Gauff. Many posters then came out and expressed that Garcia would win it all, not Swiatek. And even betting odds changed and had Garcia and Swiatek tied for first for winning the U.S. Open.
