Shouting 2 seconds AFTER hitting a shot is hinderance, bud. Nadal told the chair umpire and the umpire didn't even call Sonego over to tell him anything, what Sonego was doing is illegal and quite low for a match of ATP level, nevermind Wimbledon. This is the fault of poor officiating, that chair umpire should be retrained at the very least.
I never disputed the hindrance part. I disputed Nadal taking on the role of official.

Rafa just proved me right. He was fine with the noise until he started losing games.

He used his gravitas against the umpire and his opponent. And he physically touched them both to prove his dominance. Did you see Sonego touch Rafa? No. He knows better.

Rafa puts hands on people when he's angry. That isn't right. It's a subtle threat.

This is why you have to hate and disrespect Rafa in order to win. Otherwise he's gonna do it to you, and you're gonna fold.
Lol ok Freud :censored:

Totall agree!! Low from Sonego and poor from the umpire.

Rafa was patient throughout the roof closing antics. He finally gave Sonego some words to ponder. Will hopefully teach Sonego to behave better.

Got broken back for 4-4 in the 3rd, at which point he walked up to the net and called him over like "come here, I gotta talk to you", real mafia-boss style. He then proceeded to reprimand him and whine to the umpire. Sonego was obviously thrown off, shell-shocked, and easily lost the next 2 games and the match. Embarrassing, much like his hysterical fangirls on here.

The fact that he's now all contrite and apologizing and "berry berry sorry" and he "meant it in a nice way, 100%, from the bottom of my heart" should tell you all you need to know...
He won 1,2 and 4 in each set before getting thrown off lol. He played brilliantly to break and after that it's normal service.

We all know the only reason Nadal won this match is because he called Sonego over to talk to him. What a cheater!

Interesting that some are in here having a go at Rafa rather than in the Tsitsipas/Kyrgios thread where Nick’s awful intimidating and disruptive behaviour throughout his match was way, way out of order.

If "the official" isn't doing his job and it may cost you the match, what then? Accept the lost via obvious cheating?

LOL!

Thank you for enlighten us with your superior logical takes.

Just because Sonego's is worse and clearly tactical doesn't mean Nadal's isn't too. We're just so used to his by now.
I've ever seen Nadal grunt while slicing, so that is false :happydevil:
And Nadal grunts in practice sessions too, so not tactical.

I think so. I agree with Nadal that Sonego’s grunting is out of line. But asking him to come and talk to him at the net like he has assumed official status? No, no, no!
Imagine if every player that complains to an umpire and doesn’t agree with the umpire’s response decided to take matters into their own hands. That’s why I was wondering if there is an explicit rule against complaining directly to the opposing player

I was on Nadal's side of feeling it was unnecessary and disruptive for the call to close the roof. But felt he should have left well enough alone. It just looks bad at what happened at that kind of high profile tournament match. Should have just finished the match, and then after make some complaints about the umpire not doing much of anything about the excessive wrong timed grunting.

I think being a fan of Kyrgios is some unknown litmus test for a person's character.

Would it be ok if a player complained directly to the opposing player for taking too long to serve?

Tell me how you never played beyond the 3.5

Taking too long to serve =/= using the allowed 25 seconds to serve.

How's that reality you inhabit, is Fed the GOAT over there?

To the people complaining Nadal should've just told the chair umpire, well guess what? He DID, and the umpire didn't even call Sonego over to relay the VERY VALID complain, so what is one to do?

Sonego was shouting like a maniac well AFTER hitting every shot, that is a real way to ILLEGALLY disturb your opponent.

Sit down haters.
Exactly. Umpires are clowns

That’s the issue, no? Even if Nadal had a legitimate reason to complain is he allowed to do so by talking directly to the other player?

He's Rafa. He can do anything he wants.

Sonego should have apologized and carried Rafa's gear back to the locker room.

Rafa's third round match was similar to Alcaraz's with the exception that Carlos successfully staved off his one break point on serve and Rafa didn't... still, great match for Rafa! He is playing great tennis in this tournament!

Well well....the Kyrgios Tsitsipas match was WAY more entertaining and has a **** ton of posts more than this dumb match
The match wasn't dumb, it was just that Rafa played great and it was therefore one-sided...

Lorenzo Sonego criticizes his today's opponent Marton Fucsovics: "He was annoyed with my grunting. After the first set he started complaining to the umpire. That's unfortunate because I never try to bother my opponents."
That was in April. Sonego is a grunting joke

More from the olympic games: "Just watching Sonego playing (and currently losing from) Taro Daniel at the Olympics and he is constantly grunting/shouting/screaming during serve/play. So annoying. Since the stands are empty, it rings through so loud. Must be so disturbing for the opponent too." apparently this guy should have been a porn actor instead.

@Kralingen what did you make of todays match from Rafa. Do you think he improved and do you still believe in Lambo?
Didn’t watch the majority but looked great in the bits I saw. Sonego was hopeless though.

he was always going to improve for the 2nd week. But yes, I’m confident, I have him squarely as the favorite. Alcaraz just behind, Djokovic a distant 3rd.

If you want to make a point, try doing it without name calling his fans, mocking his English and exaggerating what happened with words like mafia boss, whine and shell shocked.
It really only serves to make you look like someone who feels the need to leap on an opportunity to denigrate a player you don’t like, rather than a reasonable take on events.

Fair enough, but I'm not trying to win debate club here. If your issue is with my word choice, then I guess you're acknowledging that my point is valid - as the vast majority of the tennis world already has.

As for "name-calling", yes, I used the word "hysterical" to refer to all those fans who automatically jumped to their muscled hero's defense, without even pondering the situation for a second. Although I didn't single-out any individual poster and call them "disgusting" or tell them to "man up"...

It's no secret that I dislike this player, and I feel free to voice my thoughts about him on this "Talk Tennis" forum. But believe me, I don't say anything about him I wouldn't/don't say in public. Just like I refrain from saying anything to an individual user that I wouldn't say straight to their face. Certain dedicated fans, instead, are quick to get all up-close and personal with me as soon as I undermine the prestige of their veiny, sweat-spraying, ball-scratching deity - which I find very amusing.

Thanks for the explanation. Simply reinforces my point tbh but I’ll leave it there.

Really? So touching another man isn't a show of dominance?

Try touching your palm to your boss' chest next time he's unhappy with you. Let me know how that turns out.
Lol why are you comparing Sonego to someone’s boss? It’s a pretty normal interaction between colleagues imo

Only thing I noticed was when sonego hit passing shot and fell down, he shouted, maybe due to falling down. I think Rafa was a bit frozen at the net, thinking it was outcall or something. I thought Rafa would complain about it but he didn't.
