Sinner served 57% today and never got broken. Pathetic level of returning from Alcaraz and people picked him to destroy Djokovic....

The narrative will now switch to "he would have destroyed Djokovic had he got through"

From what I've seen the defending champ is playing better than last year - only Nadal and Kyrgios have decent chances to stop him in the sort of form he showed in last couple of rounds

Great win for Sinner. PD I can't believe how biased ESPN Latin America is towards Spanish players. Always asking what "Carlitos" has to do to win the game. And the main guy is a huge Nadal fanboy

Nothing against them, but broadcasts are supposed to be neutral and focus on tennis itself.

Hold on ,want me to tell you how many times Alcaraz dumped ball in to net or hit outside the line in bps and 30-30? even last bp was a second serve and a neural rally and he makes and stupid error.ffs spare me with this forcing bs.

Sinner was 41 UE's vs. Alcz 39. Alcz only won 118 point vs. Sinner's 146 points. Again, Sinner just outplayed Alcz, but Alcz did donate quite a few, but there was pressure from Sinner on those.

Well someone has to eventually pick up the Slams that the Big 3 leave on the table once they are all retired

My guess is we go through a long transition period where Slams are divided up amongst several players

Well, we were talking about bps and the games that Alcaraz were in. As for points won, first two sets were absolute gift and that makes the difference. In last two sets Alcaraz was nowhere second best. In 4 th set go watch he was in almost all games, had more bps , more 30-30 or 40-40. You must have watched different 4th set. In first most of the bps and 40-40 he was in rally and then stupid errors .

Yea look, I like Alcaraz too but Djokovic deserves more respect on this board as a grass great. Alcaraz has to earn that level of respect like he had to.

He is playing better than last year but let's not jinx it since he's about to play. Lol

Please just STOP.
Alcaraz hasn't done anything at slam level. So please don't predict him to win until he at least makes the SF of a slam.
I'm no Alcaraz fan, I'm just going off what I see and the numbers. He's broken 60% of games on hard courts already this year, which is slam-winning territory at just 18. He's clearly comfortable playing in the US too, and showed promise at the Open last year.

I think he'll be able to manipulate the crowd well there, particularly against someone like Medvedev, who on paper is a better contender based on past pedigree but has been ropey this year. If he meets Nadal I don't think he'll beat him but I've a feeling someone else will deal with that problem for him.

Yeah good point lol
TVR should be a good test - arguably the man in form on grass now that Berrettini isn't playing

Sinner was there for the taking. When your opponent is nervous, you "make them play".
Instead Alcaraz tries flashy shots on all of the break points. 3 BPs lost from 0-40. Then in the final game - more BPs lost. He did NOT break even once in the match.
Sinner was trying to choke as HARD as possible - All Alcaraz had to do was keep the ball in play and make him work. Sinner would have coughed up errors and lost the set.

This is why I said Carlos is probably NOT going to win 10+ slams. He does NOT have the right mix of aggression and defense. His shot tolerance and decision making is suspect.
You can't be an ATG without a great shot tolerance and defensive game. Nadal/Djokovic/Fed would have NEVER NOT broken in set 4. Even when they were young.
It's about WINNING. Sometimes it's UGLY and not with highlight reel flashy shots 100% of the time. Carlos needs to understand that - it's like being too proud of yourself to do the dirty work.

I wanted and expected Alcaraz to win but I can't complain. Sinner is great youngster as well and this victory keeps their rivalry alive.

Great match from both and Sinner deserved to take it for his superb hitting and returns. One of his top performances if not the best.

He has the game but no mental strength on BPs.

The biggest problem with the next gen is mentality so till I see a player who plays their best tennis on big points then I’ll jump of the bandwagon.

Alcaraz is no future ATG. He’ll be lucky to win a slam tbh. Good night

Yeah man his ROS is pathetic. That has to improve but yeah maybe the hype on this kid should settle down a little. A lot of improvements need to be made. He needs to learn how to handle pace. Brainless ball bashing is not it.
Yea the return on grass is not good. Has to improve that. The hype needs to cool down a bit. Made the 4th round at 19 like players like Djokovic so he's on the right track but he's not quite at that elite level. You're right. It takes more than that to beat great players day in and day out.

Carlos moving to a JCF POG like Shapo went from Wilson to Yonex

JFC will go scouting for another 12 year old but check his IQ this time
rather than find out too late he only watched Tweety cartoons for life lessons

Y'all can keep talking about Rats and the Rodent - clearly the only topics of interest for the majority - but the real story here is the awe-inducing performance of Jannik Sinner, the Blacksmith of the Dolomites. A coming of age moment today, right there on Centre Court in front of Rocket Rod and the rest of them.

I think most who see Alcz potential figure this would be a good building year for the surface, and figured he could win a few to start. Has not disappointed for sure.
Well it's not like Janik Sinner is just going to stay at the same level with all the other young guys. They're going to improve as well and be even better next year just like Alcaraz.

True but come on man those are legends that had won something beforehand.
Yes but a legend himself was playing in the match and had all those opportunities.
4/23 BPs against Djokovic at USO 2015. LOL
I think you could just stand at the fence and whack a hail mary with your eyes closed and get better conversions than that junk.

Well i can tell you this match i have killed federer over the years in this match. Everyone will tell you. That was a winnable by Roger and he sucked.

But the thing is that his ROS is usually excellent. Today Alcaraz was way off, nothing worked. Even his dropshots were really bad today. I don't think Sinner is a bad matchup for him either, as he has been successful against him before. I think Alcaraz just had a very bad day. There might be some tactical (not technical) lessons to be learned, like how Carlos sometimes unnecessarily goes for too much at critical points causing him to make mistakes, but the kid is 19 and he and Ferrero can work these things out.

Alcaraz has won two MS1000 this year and is 3rd in the race at 19, son. Sinner will crash and burn against Djokovic. Try harder next time. Alcaraz is much more entertaining than Sinner and twice as talented as him. He just had a really bad day today.

Lol easy there, buddy, keep that butthurt in check. Just very proud of Gianni as he continues to grow into my country's best tennis player of all time. But nobody's trying to discredit your fave - in fact, I've been predicting world domination for him since before you most likely ever heard of him. Fantastic player, will easily win double digit slams. Just a little perplexed by all the plasma treatments and transfusions starting in his mid teens, but hey, that's just the Spanish way ;)
