Damn those are two juicy first round matches. I'm super excited for Andreescu vs Raducanu as both have shown some decent form lately, and these are the kinds of match ups we want to see more of to potentially ignite regular rivalries.

Osaka vs SST will be interesting. I wonder what Osaka has worked on since her loss? I'm hoping they have predominantly used the footage from that match to get some things in check at least. I can't see her winning a repeat so soon but a better showing or winning a set would arguably be a result. Also, checking out what Pegula did to beat SST would be advisable. Having said that Pegula did make the final in Madrid and clearly has a few tools in her armoury for a clay court that Osaka doesn't have. Pegula has been using such a range of shots on clay including the drop shot, she can also mix it between spin heavy groundies and totally flattening the ball out (kind of gave me Ivanovic light vibes on that shot - really useful for finishing a point off on clay of you choose the right moments to go for it).

Further down the draw, it's interesting how in form players from one tournament to the next meet each other in R1 and how some of the top players who haven't gone deep lately look like they may have to play an in form player who has gone deep in Madrid or Stuttgart - kind of hard to predict this draw.

I think I'll go with a Swiatek v Sakkari or Badosa final just based on the draw. Some early sections are stacked so I think some in form players from Madrid will be gone early or not be able to maintain that form all the way through in Rome.

Hahaha… NO totally ran away from a tough test. No surprise.
The biatch won. Why is she playing? Didn’t she say she wanted to take a break after shunning the kid, walking off mid-match? Biatch!

Osaka now take a step back again after taken 2 step forward! Her ranking is going to drop as long as she is not in tournaments! Last year she quit FO due to the press asking questions she felt uncomfortable answering. o_O Retired for 9 months! afterward.

Kalinina moves on to 2nd round! It was a question of who could played worse in this match up, Keys won out in that regard! 6-4, 6-4.

Tauson/Kostyuk would have been a lot cooler than Brengle/Kostyuk, but Clara’s out with a back injury.

U.S. Madison Brengle got a win over Kostyuk, 4,3! Look like Brengle is off to a good start in Rome!

Alexandrova hitting is on fire! If Alexandrova can get her serve in, Sloane is out of it! Alexandrova just rallies and hits the winner!

Now we get the match between two U.S. Open champions with Romanian heritage trying to get back into the groove they once had to win a major in the first place.

OMG, the US female commentator, I think… Diarrhea Mouth, when comparing These 2 former USO winners, said BA had to beat SW to win, whereas ER only had to face Leylah Fernandez. Putting down both at the same time.

That's not much lateral movement from ER here (?). Letting winners through that are yards inside the baseline. Unless the afternoon sun's just in a funny spot.

I do too… but so far I’m impressed with ER. Fought through a 8+ minutes first game, and fighting through a Love-40 3rd game. She lost the serve only after she got back to deuce.
I’m sure Raducanu will up her level soon but Andreescu is probably too powerful for her.
