Wow what an abysmal performance by Gauff. Honestly if she had even a tiny bit of decency, she'd refund those 100 people in attendance their ticket money. Outrageously bad stuff. With all due respect for Kasatkina, she's done a lot this year but at the YEC she's a 0-6 player
Just relax, Daria is 2:0 against Coco

Worst YEC I have ever seen. They should've just given Iga the trophy and let the rest play out who is 2nd best. Or rather who sucks the least out of the rest

How Gauff managed to reach #4 at the age of 18 will probably be the biggest mistery of all time in womens tennis. Worst FH in all of tennis, including juniors. She is late on every single FH, something I didn't think would be impossible even if tried intentionally.

I'm pretty sure opponents have figured her out now. Just slap everything at her FH and wait for a shank or an attackable shot

Garcia is going to murder Kasatkinas 60mph serves. While Gauff stands behind the baseline like an idiot to return, Garcia steps into the court and attacks those. Anything but an easy straight set victory would be shocking.

I believe we'll see a Garcia-Iga final here

I think so too.

Swiatek has already won the group so she's at the top of the SF.
I think she'll draw Jabeur or possibly Sabalenka as the #2 from the bottom half

I have Sakkari winning the bottom half and think she'll go 3-0 defeating Jabeur so that way she gets the bottom spot and doesn't have to face Iga in the SF.
Then I have Garcia being the #2 from the top half

So Swiatek v Jabeur or Sabalenka with Iga winning
Sakkari v Garcia with Garcia knocking Maria out.

it would be funny if Sakkari beats Jabeuer 2:0 and Pegula beats Sabalenka 2:1. Then Jabeur, Sabalenka, and Pegula would be 1:2 in matches, and 3:5 in sets. they would count games to see who goes through....

Iga vs Caroline would be an apt final - their 3rd meeting of the year? Winner takes the 2022 H2H. I can't really think of a more exciting match up at this point unless Sakkari fancies turning up in a final for once.

Gauff & Pegula both had big years, played a lot of singles and doubles. Makes sense that they'd be exhausted. Someone said this is Coco's first full year on the tour. And she's held up pretty well I think (compared to say Emma R.)

I haven't followed this at all. I wish the WTA still did 16-player single elimination with BO5 final, or if not, still single-elimination with BO3 final. Granted, they're clearly dug in with mimicking the ATP finals.

It's strange they scheduled Sabalenka vs Segula as a first match. Now that Sabalenka won the other match is completely meaningless....

Even if Jabeur wins in straight sets, she is already eliminated? How? I don't understand the concept here. Her set-average would be 5-3... and 4-3 for Sabalenka.

Because no matter what Sakkaru takes first place since at worst she will be 4:2 in sets. Then there's Sabalenka and Jabeur left, and the first tiebreaker between two players is head to head match which sabalenka won

Jabeur is so criminally bad. Says it all about the state of women's tennis when she made the USO final. Sakkari served 3 double faults in the very first service game and Jabeur was still unable to break

Not true. Had Jabeur beat Sakkari in straight sets, Sakkari and Jabeur would've qualified while Sabalenka and Pegula would've bowed out.

Hope and pray Sakkari wins this match, we want Sabalenka in the semis,, not boring Jabeur

Sakkari doesn't have to win. Only needs a set. No matter what, Sakkari was already qualified as #1 for the semis even if she had lost in straights. Maria was playing for nothing and still steamrolled pathetic Jabeur.

I'm not sure why this WTA Championship isn't clicking - wrong location, bad promotion, players no one cares about, bad timing on the calendar? - or, more likely, a combination of things.

Iga is a tennis superstar - but even then, in the US she's not a general sports star/celeb. Only tennis fans are going to care. And even then, are they going to come out to see her play against those seven other players?

Nothing seems exciting about this tournament. It's tepid and seems like they're doing it because they have to; it's what has always been done.

Hopefully the semis and finals will provide some quality matches.

Nope, as my previous post explains

You are wrong my friend. You clearly don't get the tie breaking method for round robin. Had Jabeur won in straight sets, she would've advanced and Sabalenka would've been out.

Not happening anyway since Jabeur played one of the worst sets tennis has ever seen

Please see official WTA RULEBOOK section VI b. Here's the link https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...AQFnoECAkQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2q9TXXHmGws-JERuU_JanD. It is fairly clear how the tiebreaker for round robin works.

It's like the people knew beforehand that the quality would be low so didn't show up. But obviously they couldn't have known.

Respectfully, everyone could've known. Kasatkina with her 60mph serves, Gauff with a kindergarten FH, overweight out of form Jabeur, Sabalenka with her shrieking 10+ DFs per match....It's like the only two in form players heading into this were Iga, Sakkari and Pegula. With the latter looking like an amateur. There is not a single box office player except Iga but she has zero charisma and star power in her. They just seem to have boring personalities which doesn't help either

Either whoever tweeted this does not know the rules, or the rules are not per official WTA RULEBOOK. because regulation on tiebreaker are fairly clear in that rulebook.

You don't know the rules clearly. Then explain this. Let's say Jabeur beat Sakkari 2-0 just now.

How and with what logic does Sabalenka advance instead of Jabeur. Please genuis, run this down for us

Btw, had Pegula won in straight sets against Sabalenka, Pegula would've been through to the semis as Sakkari seems to be whooping Jabeur in straight sets also. And still, todays matches were completely meaningless for Sakkari. No matter what the results would've been, she was already qualified as the #1 of her group.

Nothing to play for ? isn't there like $300,000 for every match you win ? That can buy a few houses in Greecian islands

I meant points and ranking wise (within the group, as she was gonna be #1 no matter what). Of course money was still in play.
i heard she is planning on buying the island of Cypress. i don't blame her

Geez a shocker debut for both Gauff and Pegula.

Both made their debut in singles and doubles (a rare feat) but Pegula went 0-3 in her singles winning just 1 set. Gauff has gone 0-2 winning no sets.

In the doubles they’ve just gone 0-3 losing all matches.

Yep, it's been a disaster of a tournament for the Americans. And Gauff only wins tomorrow if Swiatek doesn't care because she's already advanced in first position.

I have a feeling that Dasha will beat Caro tomorrow. Caro can hit some return winners but will have trouble with the varieties of Dasha's game.

I've enjoyed this one more than any other WTA finals in years, but that's mainly because the Texas time zone matches well with the UK. The actual venue has had crowds more befitting for a 250 tournament.

Maybe they should try L.A? Although with Wuhan and China Open back next year I presume it will return to the far East(?).

Sakkari's dominance has been a surprise, but if she gets to the final and plays Swiatek....well...

I like the idea of making this tournament 16 players and maybe even keeping the RR.
