G.O.A.T.
I've enjoyed this one more than any other WTA finals in years, but that's mainly because the Texas time zone matches well with the UK. The actual venue has had crowds more befitting for a 250 tournament.

Maybe they should try L.A? Although with Wuhan and China Open back next year I presume it will return to the far East(?).

Sakkari's dominance has been a surprise, but if she gets to the final and plays Swiatek....well...

I like the idea of making this tournament 16 players and maybe even keeping the RR.
Is that confirmed those Chinese tournaments will be back? They just canceled the Chinese Grand Prix. Still serious covid lockdown issues over there.

Garcia is going to murder Kasatkinas 60mph serves. While Gauff stands behind the baseline like an idiot to return, Garcia steps into the court and attacks those. Anything but an easy straight set victory would be shocking.

I believe we'll see a Garcia-Iga final here

I have a feeling that Dasha will beat Caro tomorrow. Caro can hit some return winners but will have trouble with the varieties of Dasha's game.

PSNELKE vs. ttwreader! Only one will be correct. Who will it be?!?

Why not bring it back to Madison Square Garden in New York? We appreciate tennis here and when I attended the WTA Finals here in the 1990s, the Garden was packed.

Anyone watching Garcia/Kasatkina? Impressive choke from Garcia to lose the first set from a break up.

Garcia is just going for too much too early instead of constructing points. Her low-percentage high-risk game only works if she's on, and that comes and goes. It went away in the first set, but she's on so far in the second.

The winner here plays Sakkari. Interestingly, Garcia is 2-0 against Sakkari and Kasatkina surprisingly is 4-1 against Sakkari.

It's clear that Garcia will win it, but it's really baffling why she struggles so much.

I really question Garcia's intelligence at this point. All those BPs, just get the return in play ffs. It's not like Kasatkina has the power to whoop you off the court with a winner

That game was not high in quality but it was very high in drama! What was that? 6 break points saved by Kasatkina?

"Kasatkina is just two points away from the biggest win in her career"
These two old ladies who are commenting are they out of their minds?

I don't see any comments about Iga-Coco match, anybody watching?
First set was really good, in comparison to Garcia-Daria match at least.
Then Iga just turned on the turbo.
First half of the first set, Iga was busy with the crowd with a lot of people still moving in. And then when the crowd settled down, Iga won the next 10 games

I think it was 3:3 in the first set when Iga became annoyed. In her mind, this is it, proverbial puck stops here. And it did.

Just saw the highlights of the Swiatek/Gauff match and just domination by Iga. Some of those winners were just epic. She truly is the best and dominating.

SF:

#1 Swiatek v #7 Sabalenka
#6 Garcia v #5 Sakkari

Swiatek leads Sabalenka 4-1 in the H2H but the Sabalenka win was at this very tournament last year in their first meeting.

Garcia leads Sakkari 2-0 in their meetings.

Didn't China also have empty stadiums? Mexico is the biggest success so far.

Jabeuer with the intentionally mismatched yellow and black shoelaces to match the outfit colors.
Getting outhit has got to be a concern for her team. She can't quite deploy the barty ways of troubling with the slice, and hasn't put together a repeatable winning strategy.

Players like Osaka, Andreescu , Krejcikova, Bencic, Ostapenko, and Collins really need to step up next year. Players that are actually capable of stopping Iga being dominent.

This years challengers have been genuinely pathetic.

Doubles SF:

#1 Krejcikova/Siniakova v #5 Kichenok/Ostapenko
#4 Kudermetova/Mertens v #8 Krawczyk/Schurrs

The dominant #1's Krejcikova/Siniakova are the favourite to take it out but have a challenge against Kichenok/Ostapenko who led them by a set and break just recently in Guadalajara 2 weeks ago (before losing) and have scored a win over them before.
Kudermetova/Mertens should get past the last seeds to make the final.

I expect Krejcikova/Siniakova to cap off their incredible year by winning the YEC for the 2nd time in a row and adding to their yearly haul of their Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles.

What happened to that secondary tournament the WTA ran in Zhuhai? They haven't found a replacement for that which is odd considering I don't think they ran it last year so they definitely had time. I quite like the current 8 player format providing it really is the spectacle it deserves to be. I think you're right, if they come back to Fort Worth just give it a 250 and stick to hosting the YEC somewhere there got an enthusiastic crowd.

I honestly wouldn't mind Sakkari winning this thing if she can actually not mentally collapse during the final (should she make it) - that could actually make her a threat in the latter stages of all tournaments from then on. I think her losses in tournament finals may be more problematic for her than FAA's were for him until he finally won one, as Sakkari's best form has been the past couple years and she has nothing to show for it even though on paper she already had a title and therefore does at least have the ability to win 250s.
Right now you'd be daft not to pick Swiatek for the title but if someone can play inspired tennis it could at least cause some cracks in Swiatek's game that she's not had to deal with thus far.

gauff is an absolute joke. Swiatek is going to destroy all records
Even if Swiatek is off her game from time to time, who do we have to realistically challenge her? Do we need a top level return of Osaka on HCs? I am not sure whether we will ever get that - it really depends on whether the fire has died inside for her. Gauff doesn't look like she could even be in the Top 3, at least not consistently, due to her shaky forehand which will become more and more exploitable the more players do so. Former players like Azarenka appear to be unable to return to the heights which saw them achieve GS success, and even younger players like Andreescu seem to have hit a wall for the time being at least. When it comes to the clay, I really hope Krejcikova is in top form at RG next year as she really wasn't able to be for her defence earlier this year. A meeting between those 2 is something I really want to see next year at RG.

I watched the 2nd set of Swiatek v Gauff match. Iga was just on a different level. Coco's FH continued to let her down. She looked frustrated last night. There's a lot of pressure playing against Iga because of her strike-first super aggressive style. There's almost no neutral rally with Iga, every point is a pressure shot. Plus, she can create angles better than probably any WTA player.

When she's on like last night, there's probably no serious challenger that can stop her.

I'm eagerly waiting for such player to step up. Iga's last two losses were to Krejcikova and Keys.

Sakkari in a big match is just funny at this point.

No matter how good her form is coming in, she completely crumbles once there's even slight pressure.

As expected, Swiatek-Garcia final.

I believe Iga got this but I refuse to write Garcia off. Considering she won tournaments on 3 different surfaces this year, she has won indoor HC masters titles in her career and because she beat Iga on clay, in a final, in Iga's homecountry Poland just a few months ago. That's a pretty big feat. If she can serve well and cuts the UEs, she has a slight chance

Sweet Iga is getting owned to start. Broken right away.

however Sabalenka will self destruct of course, just give her some time. I did know this would be a close one though… Saba was by far the better player in the USO match they played and is one of the few players in tennis history who can truly hit a defender like Iga off the court.

She did on cue. Giving Iga a sweet easy break.
