2023-2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs

They're still kind of a run and gun offense imo - not as much as last year, like you said the PK has been immaculate and impressive. But at times Skinner is still a sieve and Darnell Nurse/Ceci gets pretty habitually abused. I don't think it would have been as one sided as last year but styles definitely make matchups in NHL and I think Vegas would have been a frustrating draw for Edmonton. They play similarly to Florida and for a while there it was looking real one sided. But McDavid is on one right now and Skinner has really stepped up, so kudos to them. I still think Game 7 is pretty 50/50 though, extremely hard to beat a team 4 times in a row. Should be a good one. I am glad I didn't have to find out if Vegas was going to repeat.

It might look that way from this series. At least the last 3 games. That's just how they are playing Florida because of how Florida plays and also because they appear vulnerable to it. In other series they got a lot of goals by keeping the puck inside the offensive zone or from the blue line (Bouchard and recently Broberg).

I don't think the play was one sided early against Florida either. Oilers were producing a ton of quality chances in games 1 and 3. They just couldn't beat Bobrovsky.

Honestly think this series would have been over as fast as last years final if Draisaitl was fully fit. For as good as Bob is, he often reverts back to his Flyers/Blue Jackets variant every now and again. I'm sure @Fabresque knows that better than anybody lmao.

I'm definitely rooting for Edmonton to finish the job. I was nervous the second they beat Vancouver because I knew they'd be brutal for Dallas to play. Star power usually wins in this league, and they've got it in spades. Certainly not a perfect team by any means, but nobody is - especially when you actually adhere to the cap unlike Vegas ;)

When the entire top 5 playoff point getters are on your team, you know you're dealing with a wagon. Inconsistent D / Goalie or not. I'd honestly rather see skill rewarded than playing dirty or sitting on one goal leads and winning through sheer attrition. Obviously that is a subjective thing, but I'd rather see the skill show through.

Still have a bad feeling about G7 though. Think Florida will slow it down and make it a 1-0 or 2-1 type of game. Oilers need to break through first and just crush their spirits from the jump. And again as cliché as it is to say winning 4 in a row against anyone is very difficult.

That said Florida's bench looked completely disconsolate last night, they don't look like they have much belief.

The Stars series could've gone the other way if they didn't get unlucky in OT in game 1. Oilers played well that series and it was still close. Special teams decided it basically.

Oilers' weakness is definitely their defense (except Bouchard/Ekholm). Even if they are much better than last year. Although the 2nd pairing is doing a lot better now that they put Broberg with Nurse. 3rd pairing is a huge liability though.

Are you an Oilers fan?

Oh man, how nervous are you? Lol

You wouldn't be able to fit a singular grain of rice through my you know what if Dallas was in this position right now. Definitely jealous but also Edmonton deserved it. No doubt about it.

Been through 5 elmination games already so we're pretty used to it I guess. The games kind of feel like Fedal finals from back in the day. Except it's worse because it isn't just one match. lol. I don't know if I'll be more nervous for game 7 or not. I'm just glad they put themselves in position to win and it's a 'may the better team win' type of thing. I just hope the game doesn't come down to lucky bounces (unless it goes the Oilers' way...).

@InsuranceMan are you a Panthers or Lightning fan? Or is it just Miami Heat for you?
I have a friend group of hockey fans and I never really cared for puck. So the corny joke this post season was that I have a bad case of the cat fever but it actually manifested into me watching games for the first time due to the meme. I got utterly no clue what I’m watching though, like legitimately nothing. Definitely have a newfound appreciation for hockey and panthers but not enough to watch reg szn or fully keep up. Might be a mega casual and hop on some panther play off runs in future. I will say there is a very successful lower league team right by me that I have access to free tix to, if anything this has shown me how awesome that scene must be and how I should capitalize on that privilege

Skinner is garbage man. Knew he was gonna choke when I saw his puck handling earlier during that period. Terrified of the moment and gets beat near post like a mug.

He's no Cam Ward.

Love that fake news commercial showing the final seconds tick down on a Stanley Cup and showing Dallas Stars Modano but one little problem... Modanos cup win was in OT as was his cup loss

That game was very boring and disappointing. Draisaitl, McDavid, Hyman, Bouchard was no where to be found when it mattered the most.
.
Congratulations to the Florida Panthers.

It was a game of few chances. Bouchard hit the post on one. Hyman had a chance at the end. But yeah, the big guys for the Oilers didn't create enough opportunities.

Can’t believe Bob didn’t win Conn Smythe… cmon

I don't think he was better than Skinner in this series and Shesterkin was apparently better in the previous one. Not sure about Swayman. Bobrovsky's stats this post-season really aren't anything impressive. He was playing on a team that dominated possession for almost the entirety of the playoffs and was very good at limiting high quality chances. McDavid on the other hand was breaking/approaching relevant records.

Swayman was definitely better - best goalie in the world imo

Is Edmonton going to rebuild as a defense-first team like Florida did a couple years ago?

They're dominant five on four and four on five but pretty lacklustre at even strength.

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said Wednesday that some of the team's top stars were playing through injuries during their Stanley Cup playoff run.

Knoblauch said Leon Draisaitl had hand and rib injuries that left staff questioning whether he could play, forward Evander Kane had a sports hernia, and captain Connor McDavid was also playing hurt.

Drai I buy being hurt. I don’t know if I buy McDavo’s supposed injuries. Start of the season for sure he was playing injured.

Florida must have been lucky none of their players were playing injured.

Stammer being in a jersey that’s not Tampa is gonna look weird. Like if Crosby/Ovi weren’t in a Pens or Caps shirt.

It’s almost unfair, he wanted to stay really badly but Tampa couldn’t justify it business-wise.

Does Tampa still think the window is open, though? Come on. I think we’re past that looking at their last 2 series’. They weren’t even close against Florida.

Whoa.

I am loss for words. My favorite player.

I was reading the rumors last night praying I’d wake up to good news this morning. Unthinkable.

Don’t drink and drive. Seriously.
