Absolutely, Rune didn't have any balls going to the net in the match. It was his cowardice that cost him the match.

Djokovic needs to sharpen up. He didn't play badly but was tactically and mentally he was all over the place. He can't do that against Sinner.

I agree. He is his biggest critic so no doubt he will look in the mirror and have strong words with his team in what needs to improve.

My concern with this match has been his mental walkabouts, now I can put that down to the year ending number one hanging over his head, but he cannot afford to keep doing that in this event, too many dangerous players in this event that will punish him in best of three for

Wasnt Djokovic like this when he was that age..retiring frequently, getting mocked by Roger, Rod etc? Rune will work on his fitness and develop…not everyone has natural stamina. He was also redlining in the first 2 sets must have taken huge toll…kid has the game and courage, he should be a great force in the upcoming years.

He looked better in his practice sessions than he did in the match. I think he had that backwards. Lol. Maybe it was just nerves about YE #1 but mentally needs to pull it together.

Commentators said winners of first 2 matches face off next as well as losers, this way there is guaranteed drama for 3rd match since winner between Rune/Tsitsipas will have a shot.

Yeah, but you can think about it the other way around. Would he have fought so hard to win the match if nothing as important as year-end #1 was on the line?
Being relaxed isn't necessarily better.
At this point in his career it's safe to say that pressure has a much more positive than negative effect on Djokovic.

Rome is a breeze though, easily pull it off as a day trip - even with a 6-year old in tow. Turin is a much bigger pain in the azz, which is why I've been reluctant to go. But I figured it was the right time, before the Arabs snag this one too...

Wish Djokovic would stop trying to play too many BH-BH rallies against players with good BHs like Rune, Zverev, Medvedev etc. His BH is not as good as it used to be and he should accept that these days he is at a disadvantage against these players on the BH wing. Meanwhile he has outhit everyone with his FH this year and he should try to get more FH-FH rallies to have easier matches against these players. He should run around his BH to hit inside-FHs more or hit BHs DTL more. Rune in contrast hit FH DTLs early in many rallies to get to Djokovic’s BH wing.

I think the old man is too proud of his BH and wants to win matches on that wing just like Federer used to with his FH against Delpo.

Their friendship and so many more on tour which has become far more common over the last decade is just gross and it’s been happening across all sports and imo really dragging sports down. I’ve stopped watching all major sports due to this. Rivalries are now all just concocted bS. weak sauce.

I think Rune likes to keep in Novak's face and while he respects him he also wants Novak to know he is one of few players who loves actually playing hi,. Handshake probably bit cold as Rune felt annoyed with himself as he had great chance to win after that 2nd set.
