Rublev just wants to see the world burn now. I feel for him, it must be such a drag. You feel good, you play good, you know you face Nole but you have confidence. You get on the court and nothing prepares you for this… you play decent but there is NOTHING you can do. Everything goes for him… line balls, net balls, 2nd service aces, putting back balls that he shouldn’t even reach, windy balls, stupid balls… and then you forget you’re in a GS QF and feel like quitting the sport alltogether, that no-chance feeling, the impostor syndrome… poor poor Rublev

Djokovic has one of the best serves on the tour, if not THE Best... Period..
Yes, and this is the main reason why he has still improved and may be about to dominate like 2015 again. Becker was very honest in admitting that Djokovic has still improved after he was gone and gave Ivanisevic credit for it.

Best serve from those with "normal" size, I think we need to make that clear. Of course Isner etc. still serve better.

Novak changed his second serve drastically

He doesn’t rely solely on cream puff kickers to the backhand unlike 90% of the guys, although a few seem to be cottoning on that it pays to have some different serves to keep your opponent guessing.

I'm happy with the effort. His skill set leaves something to be desired of course.

I agree reg. the skilset but he's shown a bit of that defeatist attitude in this match which there just isn't room for against the absolute top players.

I am curious, Novak was always a decent server, but when did he start becoming a BOAT server, because this is incredible.

Dunno what the stats say, but as early as 2015 in matches against Federer I was becoming extremely impressed with his serving, especially in terms of his feel of where to go with it over say, pure precision.

(Disclaimer: I don't think he's any BOAT server or anything, but he's a very very good one.)

Okay. Novak took 20 slams from the tour in the same span. I don’t know what do you mean by dominance. Degree of dominance is only reducing though.
yeah so i meant Djokovic has complete dominance over the tour now, with no one left to stop him by taking a few slams here and there. Only nadal is left to cling on to his RG titles as his body continues to fade.

They will play the same game with Tommy Paul and Sissypas as well. It's hilarious. Short of getting hit by a car (which would need to be traveling pretty fast at that), nothing can stop the inevitable Djokovic conclusion here and that has been abundantly clear all along. Why he felt the need to play the fake injury game is beyond me.

Paul is more or less the same type of player as DeMinaur and Rublev, just with weaker results...

Tsitsipas is a different type. Max involved in every point... until he freezes (hope he can maintain his presence all along in the final - please, please don't lose to Karen!)

Probably mid / late 2018
He was getting older and had to reinvent himself a bit after the elbow injury

It was good in 2014-2016, just got even more effective

If Karen is in the final the mockery is complete.

Djokovic is the holder of one slam in last 4. How’s that for dominance.

His average since 2011 is about holding 2 slams at any given point of time. In pure mathematical terms that’s reduced dominance.

Can he dominate now like in the past -highly doubt it. Maybe 2 - 3 more slams. That is about it.

He understands the importance of improving the serve as he gets older, the same way Federer did.

I see it as only marginally better than the Becker improved Novak serve. It has really been tip top since 2014/15. Super strong serve.

50% of the tour hit 2nd serves into the middle of the box without intent. Federer and Djokovic really stand out in that regard; a plan behind every serve.

Ruvle's plan A - hit harder

Plan B- hit harder in to net or 3 feet off baseline

Between 2011 and 2017, he won 40 of 41 matches at the AO

He's now in the middle of another extended win streak, will be at 26 after this match

You have to be exceptional to give yourself a chance, and doubly so to get over the finish line against him

The Olympics match was one of the strangest I ever saw. Djokovic was absolutely steamrolling, even more than today. I thought he was quite easily was on his way to the Golden Slam, and then after 6-1 and 3-1 it was completely the other way around until the end of the match.
It was madness I tell you!
Zverev must've sneaked into Djoker's bag during a changeover and drank one of his magic potions.
