Nadal tuning up the band for some sweet chin music? ;)

Nothing to celebrate here. Rafa is far from top performance today..

Two doubles and there’s the break.

Cramping in the heat.. time to wipe him out for good Rafa. The guy is pathetic.

Rafa is lucky Draper is not up for it at the moment. He looked better in Adelaide, overplayed too close to the tournament. Rafa would be in big trouble against a tough opponent today. But then it is 1R so it shouldn't be a tough opponent.

Professional tennis player and he cant even go 3 sets without his legs giving up on him in the first round. What does he do for training? 2 laps around the court and a couple of push-ups? This is embarrassing. I don't goto the gym at all and i could last longer.

Up to 1995, a MTO for cramping was against the rules. Cramping was seen as a lack of conditioning. It was largely dropped after the 1995 US Open match with Korda and Matsuoka, where the latter was cramping horribly and got defaulted. I think the rule was tightened again recently.
Huh, thanks for the info!

Back in 2019 his legs already looked like they were done and the cliff was near. But he kept finding ways to win and here we are.
Yes nadal keeps finding ways even after it looks like he's done. He's worked out a combination of fitness and tournament schedule that combined with some luck allows him to time his peak. But this has got to be getting tougher to pull off, and for sure he will stop well before djoko as we all know.

It’s absolutely hilarious to me how these guys at age 36 with god knows how many miles on them somehow manage to maintain better explosiveness, better movement, and better conditioning than guys 15 years their junior. Anyways, there’s the match. All over but the handshake. I’m almost feeling guilty for this bet

I thought it was after 1995. Venus Williams cramped badly in the 1999 USO SF against Hingis and iirc, she couldn't take a mto for it.

Your Rafa for the whole slam bet or another bet cuz Rafa ain't winning the whole thing

Well he is young, famous in GB, has a lot of money and feels he achieved something. Instead of investing in his body, coaches, physios, they would rather party all night, it **** food and go to slams just to get entrance check... Classic millenials

Even LeBron in his prime had bad cramping issues. It's not a sign of poor fitness.
Playing forty minutes basketball every other day and playing first serious tournament of the year, plus first match at same tournament.. Can't compare

I think it came down more to the umpire's discretion, whereas previously it was against the rules completely.

Doesn't matter if it's his first match of this tournament when he played the last two weeks

Lol at everyone hating on Draper. Yes, he shouldn’t be cramping at this stage of a match but it’s not like he’s cramping because of a lack of effort in his practice and training. Even the commentators were saying that this is a problem he’s had throughout his career and he’s put in the work with his team to try and solve it, yet he continues to struggle.
I feel for the guy because the way Rafa is playing, Draper had a great shot at knocking out the defending champ but it looks very unlikely now.

As disappointing as Draper's physical struggles are, you're a lot more likely to start cramping when you're throwing your bodyweight into every forehand while still being unable to get the ball past the service line or penetrate even remotely from the back of the court. The guy simply doesn't have any weapons.

Nadal is a millennial (Generation Y). Draper is 21, so Generation Z.

Commentators saying Nadal is playing bad. They can't believe that Nadal is letting balls go and is so much slower.

It's not always a sign but poor physical conditioning can be the main cause. I don't think this is a random unexplained case here with Jack though. Although as i type this he is on BP so maybe he will shake it off?

Got any proof of this?

That was a heck of a return. Didn't really do anything with the point, but that doesn't matter when Rafa is spraying like this.

Jesus. As bad as this match has been since the 1st set I still think there's a real chance Nadal makes the final. I just have so little faith in Meddy and Stef after last year.
