Andy Murray is the GOAT - end of debate!!

Seriously though, what an awesome and inspiring performance today, battled hard for 5 hours to get a win against a dangerous Top 10 player
While the younger, healthier Brits can't even keep their fitness levels up after 1.5 sets - metal hip FTW!

Next round is either Kokk or Fognini though, brutal.

kokk or fognini should be alot easier than berettini.. and he gets some good rest too.

I'm very pleasantly surprised of course. He keeps his recent record of never going out in the opening round of a Slam (only time that happened was at 2008 AO). :)

Just hope he will now be fit enough for the next round!

He is THE competitor !

Well done. Murray playing out of his room, Berrettini's indifferent form continuing, or both?

Hopefully Andy can recover. Playing Kokkinakis at home could be challenging - but on paper it should be easier. Andy does seem to have a decent draw, would be great to see him have a bit of a run at a GS again.

All hail Ser Andy of the metal hip.

Finally getting to see that final tiebreaker now. Happy as I am that he pulled through, you do have to wonder at what cost.

Based on how exceptionally well he was playing early in the match, I would've been truly excited to see how far he could go this tournament if he had wrapped this up in straights, or even four. But now it feels like the same old, same old. He had to empty the tank to win a 5 setter in the first couple rounds and will now be cooked.

Those first few sets he was playing the cleanest tennis I've seen from him in years, maybe since the surgery. Pinpoint accuracy, not leaking any errors at all, even when going over the high part of the net.

Someone else probably brought this up already, but it just hit me how bad this loss is for Berrettini ranking wise. He just traded his 2022 SF points for 1R.

He came into today #14 and will now drop outside the top 20. This time last year he was up to #6.
It won't not a big deal if he finds his form. No points to defend at RG and WIM, Top10 is a realistic target for him at the season end.

Andy says his fitness is better now than it has been the last two years. The test will come in R2 when he will need to have recovered. It would be fantastic if he can and playing at that level go deep in this tournament

Maybe he didn’t guess wrong and that’s the point.
Holy crap! A ten minute video analysis of a single point. o_O Really interesting video, and that seems like a likely explanation of a weirdly flubbed pressure point.

TDLW: Matteo was going down the line, saw Murray move to cover it, and changed his mind mid swing, causing the error. Great video, thoughtful guy, thanks!

Youre welcome. Yeah what he says made sense to me.
