Day conditions may help Thiem, ball is bouncing quite high in day conditions which could really help Thiem. In night time Rublev would have surely beaten him

if this was a matchup problem for thiem at the peak of his powers, I shudder to think of domis chances now without a forehand...basically someone without a forehand vs someone with a big one... and we know how that usually pans out. bullying

Travesty day at ESPN. how do i watch this ? ESPN and ESPN2 NOT carrying this. if you don't have ESPN plus and pay for it, you don't see aussie open all night til NFL is over with like Midnight ??

I do wonder if the injury has permanently sapped his power, or if it's mental where he's afraid to really pull the trigger because that might re-injure it.

Sad state of affairs when Dominic Thiem is getting completely pinned in his backhand corner and forced to keep putting up defensive moonballs.

Well Rublev is hard to like due to his grunting, and he's Russian. He's a good person though, and I liked him until I learned he made an underwear-brand with his name on it
I don't know about the underwear, but for me the grunting (bweh) makes him endearing. But yeah, Russians aren't popular these days.

I don’t want to jinx The Thieminator but he is hanging right there with Russian Money. Definitely some nice tennis from both of them.

Only the end of the first set but so far there's nothing about Tim's game that will bother Rublev. Especially when he hangs out all the way back there.

Domi not being able to win that game doesn't bode very well for the rest of the match. Not sure how he'll be able to break Rublev if he couldn't do it there.

Thiem’s forehand is no longer strong enough to be so much back on the court , better to be closer to make that shot more effective.

Both ESPN & ESPN2 being used to show the same NFL game tells you all you need to know about the state of sports in the USA these days.

I saw that 17 of the 18 highest rated TV programs in 2022 were NFL games. The 18th was the presidential state of the union address that nobody watches but is on every channel. I'm sure the Cowboys vs. Bucs will be one the top rated shows in 2023. ESPN pays billions in TV rights so no doubt they are going to bump AO for football tonight.

Getting the bump for football is fine. There shouldn't be any debate between a playoff NFL game and 1st round AO coverage.

It's just funny that it's getting the bump for the secondary (Peyton & Eli) broadcast too.

Thiem's game:
10% great, impressively accurate

Agree. I've noticed that in every match I've seen him play since his comeback. He was such a redline player when he was winning that it worked for him but everything needs to be working.

He desperately needs a new coach if these injury set-backs are permanent and is no longer capable of redlining like that. He needs a complete overhaul in his game and get built back from the ground up.
