Here we go, perhaps the most interesting matchup so far at the Canadian Masters 2023.

Hurkacz - the guy who probably had the best serving day against the greatest returner of tennis at Wimbledon this year, could've beaten the Serb
V/S
Alcaraz - the guy who probably had the best clutch day on grass against the same Serb in over a decade, and ended up actually beating him

Their latest (and first ever) meeting was at Miami open 2022 at SF stahe, when the Pol - defending champion was dethroned by the Spaniard - eventual champion in two tight sets, both of which went alll the way to the wire.

Predict the result in voting section & discuss.

I hope Carlos wins but I’m not that bothered. He has to lose sometime and it is the USO that counts. Last year we had suprise winners in both M1000 tournaments before the USO. Too many players have taken a rest after WB and are adjusting to hard courts for upsets to be a surprise.

Good luck to CA. Hope they can both play well, and if so, looking forward to a good contest.

I take your point and it makes sense. I do however, want my favourites to play well, and hope CA is up to it.

I'm worried about the weather, looks like until 16:00 local time, it'll be unplayable.

I hope his match doesn't get postponed.

At Miami open his qf was delayed, and Sinner whose match wasn't postponed, took advantage of his rest day and
hardly beat Alcaraz.

I hope he doesn't have a repeat of the same scenario, something that dking68, and sampras bruguera would highly appreciate it.

So do I.

It'd be great to keep the momentum going, and win in Toronto.

If he wins the title, then can either tank or withdraw in Cinci. Playing back to back tournaments, without some days off, is
not a great idea, specially having the big one just 2 weeks away.

Of course, that'll depend on the draw, if is an easy one, and if he's not tired, it'll lead him to another showdown with Djokovic.

But if Alcaraz is a bit tired, better wait to the USO final to face Djokovic (if both reach the final, that remains to be seen)

I think I spoke too soon, the Ruud vs Fokina just restarted.

I hope the weather holds.

I acknowledge that the rigours of the tour are demanding, but can't bring myself to condone 'tanking'. I second your hope that CA can keep the momentum here and play well.

When you are forced by rules to play back to back weeks, forget not that both events are mandatory, you have to do what you
have to do, every single top player has done it. It's a natural way to protect your well-being.

The only player that don't do that are lower ranked players that only play 2 matches per week, not because they want, but cause
they are not good enough to win more than those 2 matches.

If Alcaraz wins Toronto that'll be 5 matches in a week, if he is to play and win Cinci, then it'll be 10 matches in a fortnight. Then a
week later a slam.

Tanking or withdrawing by way of a faked injury are the only solutions for young players who don't have the right to skip a
mandatory event.

???

I called a straight-set WIN for Ratz. Then again, if I keeps missing every shot I may have to reconsider.

Huh?

Routine straight-setter for the GMO. These slowish courts won't let Hurk dominate on serve the way he'd like, he'll get broken at least once per set.

I know you did. That's what I was referring to. Suggesting a routine straight-set win against someone of Hurkacz calibre is asking for trouble.

As has been proven.

Let's hope CA can recover. He's returning really well actually. But too many rally errors.

For some reason CA always struggles in Canada. Remember last year in Montreal when he got eliminated in the first round by Tommy Paul.

Ended up being a little sweaty but why the hell did they set the total games for this match at 21.5?

More cheeseburgers for me.

Seems like I tuned in at the right time. Some good tennis here. Alcaraz seems to be all over the Hurkacz second serve at the moment (doesn’t help that Hubi’s giving him plenty of looks).
