Just finished reading it. Nice write up on the issues.Everyone should read the blog post by @schmke
Same at 18+ 4.0 right? Freeman and Spearman have been in the same circles and at times same teams for a long time. So I have a feeling freeman is an actual captain of the 18+ team going to nationals despite him captaining the winless team in that league. I assume some of the players on the winless team will be going to nationals at 3.5 in the next couple years. They're running the same scheme @ 4.0 in Houston. NOHO having 3 local league teams in the 40+. The captain of the 0-whatever team at sectionals working with the team meant to go to nationals, scouting players and even holding the banner for their little USTA sectional champs picture.
Houston, how silly, must be the humidity....... but hey the Astros cheated tooThey're running the same scheme @ 4.0 in Houston. NOHO having 3 local league teams in the 40+. Must be something in the water.Houston, how silly, must be the humidity....... but hey the Astros cheated too![]()
I'm sure if their system is working, why would they change it?Same at 18+ 4.0 right? Freeman and Spearman have been in the same circles and at times same teams for a long time. They absolutely did and yet nothing was done because the players association did not want to open that can of wormsHouston, how silly, must be the humidity....... but hey the Astros cheated too![]()
What kinda stuff can grievances be filed for at that point in the season?I'm sure if their system is working, why would they change it?
Until the USTA steps in and actually does something, I don't expect anything to change...In regards to the 18+, I'm friends with the majority of the guys that play for the 18+ that faced them in the finals. They attempted to file a grievance against a player before their match and were told by the officials that it would be looked at after the tournament and that any matches would still count if the player in question was DQ'd. We were told after our fiasco with NOHO at sectional finals that the time to file the grievance was before the match to have the player in question possibly DQ* which means all of his matches would be overturned.
USTA is enabling this behavior by not closing loopholes and their inaction is driving many people in my area away from league play.
Generally, it would have to be something about a self-rate omitting or misrepresenting something in their self-rate questionnaire. If that can be shown/proven, the USTA may DQ/promote the player if a correct self-rating would have placed them higher than the level they are playing. What kinda stuff can grievances be filed for at that point in the season?
But, they want grievances filed well in advance of events to prevent someone from planning an even making the trip and incurring the costs associated with that only to be told they can't play.
Totally agree.Which is unfortunate, because this risk would be the greatest deterrent to cheating.
Honestly, the least of my concerns is someone attempting to game the system, gets caught and wastes money traveling to sectionals or nationals. And really, the idea is to file the grievance before the match so if the captain wants to risk putting that player out there for a match, then the captain is accepting the consequences of a possible DQ*.Generally, it would have to be something about a self-rate omitting or misrepresenting something in their self-rate questionnaire. I agree. IMHO the USTA goes too far to cater to new players even if they are grossly out of level with strike threshold that are too high and rule that allow players to play through a playoff event with three strikes and this cut-off on when grievances can be filed.Honestly, the least of my concerns is someone attempting to game the system, gets caught and wastes money traveling to sectionals or nationals. I'm sure it's the way it is to not deter any new customers! $$$$I agree. I know it is, but it is a bit of a slap in the face of long time league players to see what comes across as preferential treatment to "sandbaggers" at their expense.I'm sure it's the way it is to not deter any new customers! $$$$
