37 year old Roger had a big decline and demise - no big titles after age 37. 37 year old Rafa has not win a big title. The same will happen for Nole
Rog was a point away from winning Wimbledon at 38, reached a slam SF on his weakest surface and it took the clay GOAT to stop him. And Djoker is himself fitter than Rog.

Rafa is an entirely different case, given the multiple physical issues he's been dealing with his whole career.

Roger would have been beaten by Dominic as well if not Rafa. And Nole.

Rune did the same thing yesterday with the late challenging and the umpire let him get away with it. It's the umpires fault allowing him to do that.

Rune is a kid.
I say umpires should put fear of god in players when they are still kids. When they get older, they will bully umpires.

God I want nothing more than Djokovic to break and end the match here here but credit to Rune, he's playing some great tennis right now to hang on.

Rune stepped up big. This kid has grit. He saved a match point and played well at those last couple of deuces. That's much easier said than done against a stone-cold killer shark.

What's the rule around challenge. Can one challenge after hitting the ball?

No, you can't hit the ball, see where it lands then challenge a previous ball. That's essentially giving the player two chances of winning the point. The rules are clear. Umpire probably regrets it cause he knows how terribly wrong he was there.

Well yes, but not if you play the shot, as it were. If you stop the point immediately after hitting the ball to challenge, that’s fine. Rune waited to see what his shot was doing before challenging – he didn’t stop the point, so shouldn’t have been able to challenge.

Win or lose, I'm proud of Holger. He's played his heart out, he's kept his focus, he's taking rally balls and serves within the baseline-- even if he loses, which is likely, this announces he's back and will be a force in 2024.

In this case no difference in terms of the result. But it’s caused by two errors in a row to reach this result lol
And there has been matches where bad line calls had significant impact on the outcome, so why leave rooms for errors when we can almost always get them right

If it was automatic line calling, the match wouldn't have changed though. I don't see why it's a big issue.
True but it would get rid of pointless drama like this, as well as the unchallenged calls that do change matches (at least to some extent). And just seems best to be consistent everywhere, instead of having a patchwork of line-calling rules from one tournament to the next.

He’s exceeded expectations this tournament for sure. I think he’s trending in a champion’s direction with Boris.

Djoker lost to Thiem, so the point is moot. Thiem was tired, as he had to play 4 days in a row. He very well could have lost to Rog.
He beat Roger everywhere that year. IW final, Madrid QF, ATP finals. Roger could not scare Thiem at all.

And on top of that, Roger himself got lucky playing tired Wawrinka. He was no challenge to Rafa who thrashed him.

It must be immediate and it's up to the umpire to decide how immediate you act, like you sometimes can get away with sorta hitting a shot and immediately putting your arm up because of a normal tennis reflex but even that is up to the umpires discretion but in this case it wasn't even close. Rune CLEARLY went for the winner, waited to see if it was in and THEN put his arm up and the umpire allowed it.
