Muchova was always likely to be a banana skin for someone as nervy as Sakkari.
Maria puts too much pressure on herself. She should downsize the entourage, get a mentor type Martinez figure instead, and relax.
It sounds so easy lol.

I feel like I'm at a three-ring circus.

Cornet - Giorgi
Fernandez - Linette
Muchova - Sakkari

Going to be a very tough 3rd set for Leylah.
It felt like she stole the 1st set from Linette.

Feels like Muchova always gets these top players in early rounds of slams and always looks like the more talented player lol.

And there we go!
So true, despite the fact that this 2nd set so far has been lousy in quality. I liked Sakkari's "self motivation speech", she hasn't done that much later in her career but they were often really funny/entertaining many years ago! :D

I joined the match during tie-break and soon they showed these ladies' records earlier this year and immediately I awaited to Muchova to take it as she then did. I don't know what it is but between players of similar level the tie-break records always "lie" (and gets fairly even towards the end of season)!?

Come on Karolina take it now!
Nobody wants 3rd set against Sakkari!

But no. And on serve again. Maria broke back with amazing backhand cross. (The set has had some really great shots and lots of really lousy ones too)

Jeez, the French crowd boo-ed Marta.
Crowd boo Kostyuk for the no handshake as was expected.
A small portion of the crowd booed Kostyuk for not shaking hands (I think), but they did it at the exact moment Sabalenka turned to get applause for the win, so she thought the boos might be for her. I think when she looked towards Kostyuk and spoke she was actually speaking to her box beyond Kostyuk and asking if the boos were for her.

Kostyuk was received reasonably well when walking off so on the whole I think there's only a small amount of people even following this handshake side plot.
Kostyuk criticized the behaviour of the spectacors:
"People should be honestly embarrassed," said world number 39 Kostyuk.
The 20-year-old added: "I want to see people react to it in 10 years when the war is over. I think they will not feel really nice about what they did."

Sakkari really should've made a coaching change in the off-season. Not that I'm blaming him for her struggles, but she clearly needs to shake something up because her career has completely stagnated.

Muchova winning that match was more a surprise last year than this year. It feels like Sakkari has been morphing from a top 10 player into a top 20 player for a while now.

She could be right. It might not be over for 10 more years.

Potato looked great in previous tournaments. Today she’s just too made-up. TT’s kit is a site for sore eyes tho…

You are not wrong. I don’t think Tom Hill is bad, but a change is needed,, and for sure a new psychology coach.

I like Bondar but am betting on Begu.
Begu has better shot selection and court sense.
Bondar has blown several break leads already with poor play.
She was up 4-2 and lost the 1st set 4-6.

@HarveyPitnik you might jinx Osorio, she didn't get LL out of 5 spots already.
Am I to blame for "new & better" (read: stupid) system considering LLs?! :( I'm not her fan, but she definitely would have belonged to main draw considering her level of play (and especially on clay).

"The incredible hulk"??? I don't quite know how to relate to her. At first thought she seems like excellent gun powder for all those "WTA is a joke"-dumbasses but on the other hand it's quite an achievement to go through the qualifications of Roland Garros (with her mass and mobility) and she didn't even have particularly easy opponents.

Forza Sara! (I really love how she is still around to annoy the hell out of all the serve contest-fans! I wonder if I have ever read from this forum how well she can play despite amateur serve - never a credit where it's due? :( )

I'm watching Samsonova vs. "Volley nets" at the moment. The marginals are not wide but the slightly harder hitting has already lead Samsonova to 4-0 lead.

Oh, and by the way there's one more thing... for once I got something right. I watched 2/3 of Tauson's qualification matches and thought she is getting back to form and seems that definitely is the case.

I'm struggling to stay awake.
I like Collins though and am hoping she can bring this match to life.
I know the feeling.
I also hope Dani can turn things around. But I wouldn't bet the house on it.
Despite both being on the tour more than 10 years, they have only played four times together.
Unfortunately jPeg owns Dani, winning each of their previous four matches. :(

Dani is uncharacteristically quiet today!
I don't know if that's because she doesn't want to rock the boat with jPeg, or she's spaced out?
Not even any fist pumps!
No feistiness at all.

I can see why jPeg's a bad matchup for Dani. jPeg is Miss Consistent.
Whereas Dani is Miss Hit or Miss.
