Last thing on the basketball: guys can pass the ball! I know that somehow a lot of basketball players don't seem to fully grasp the concept, but it is possible. Just ask Steve Nash.

I too have been scarred by intramural/pickup games...

Yes they can pass but players can also intercept the pass. Remember that literally every player on an NBA roster is a player talented enough to be in the NBA, whereas even the best college teams have numerous guys who will never even hope to sniff the next level.

As for the tennis, yes, we are pretty much in total agreement. The big 3 cast such a big shadow that only Serena seemed to be capable of finding a bit of daylight, and there hasn't been a clear star to emerge since then. Osaka seemed to have potential, but we all know how she went off the rails. And despite the media seeming desperate to make Gauff the next big thing, she simply isn't that good. Now I'm skeptical that a somewhat shy Polish girl with a quirky personality will be the one to do it. Heck, Sofia Kenin is AMERICAN, and nobody even noticed she won a grand slam, because she isn't particularly marketable.
It will be interesting to see what happens with men's tennis if it goes through a similar stretch of inconsistency.

Yes, coming full circle, the NBA team will almost certainly win (although being from NY, I've seen some Knicks and Nets games where the players decide to take a night off, despite it being a game night, where it looks like any competent team with the slightest desire to hustle and fight can beat them), I'm just trying to say it will not be an absolute joke of a game. It won't look like two different sports being played. just one set of guys that is clearly a bit better, more well rounded, than the other.

As for the men's game, I think there were some real worries about the post Big 3 era, but a few guys have emerged that seem like they can maintain most of that interest. The obvious example is Alcaraz, who has a really attractive game to watch. I personally prefer Sinner, but I can admit that Alcaraz's tennis makes for great viewing. Going back to the women, someone could emerge through personality and/or dominance, but I don't see anyone playing aesthetically pleasing tennis to the extent that Graf and Navratilova did. Serena's power game could be interesting at times, but it didn't please in that same way, and I actually always preferred watching Venus. Similarly, I really don't get much from watching Sabalenka and Rybakina play. Swiatek is a little better, but not much. That's why Muchova was such a breath of fresh air at the French. Her tennis is lovely.
