The WTA draw will be out tomorrow at noon for the 2023 U.S. Open and a link to it will be added soon after.
If you pick ‘OTHER’ in the poll please let us know who you think will win in the thread.

Here's the link to the draw as promised.

This thread is for both singles and doubles WTA matches!

Once again none of my faves are in the poll for the singles. But I do like Ryba, Vondrousova
and Gauff (now). Sabalenka is stabilizing as a player. I don’t know if she will
ever get her head completely straightened out. But her overall game is much better
now than it was a couple of years ago.

Mirra gets a qualifier 1st round but then has to face Gauff 2nd round!
Ryba may be tested by Kostyuk 1st round.
Tough 1st round for Andreescu against Tsurenko.
Tough luck for Giorgi playing jPeg 1st round.
Badosa gets the honor of playing Venus first. :)

Somehow in men's draw every second 1st round match is a potential blockbuster, while in women's draw 1st round matches are kinda meh.

College #1 Fiona Crawley of the Tarheels is looking good against Babos. Ranked in the 700's but she's a lot better than that. Nice to see college players doing well.

Typical coolcamden post.
The day before the draw is super premature? Huh?

How about the 2021 Wimbledon - WTA discussion posted more than a week before the slam started !
How about the 2015 Wimbledon discussion - WTA posted almost two weeks before the slam started !!

Commandant, get off your high horse!
You cited 2 thread from years ago, and not from @spystud to state your case. Still doesn’t change the fact this was premature and you were super eager. Whatever floats your boat. But I’m just calling a spade a spade.

Look dude. You stated my post was premature.
I pointed out that other people have made posts that were far more 'premature' than mine.
Get off your high horse.

Collins v Fruity
Ryba v low cut
Sloan v BHM
Pegula v Giorgi

Are some juicy match ups.

AParks v Kasatkina. Talk about different styles.

what happened to Genie ?
I was just kidding. :)
You seemed to be anticipating the match so I was just encouraging you.
I did watch the highlights (couple of minutes) and she just didn't have anywhere near the goods to deliver.
But that was no surprise to me.

If you're old enough you would be familiar with the TV show 'I Dream of Genie'. :)

Most Delicious match tomorrow ,, Genie Bouchard vs Yastremska

I see what you mean about "delicious" now. :)
I hadn't seen Yastremska play before until now.
I just watched a series of games of her match with Ruse.

Unfortunately she's a bit of a head case. :(
She was down 2-5 in the first. Held firm and came back to take the lead 6-5.
Then was down 3-6 in the tie-break before losing it 5-7.
All that work for nothing!

She basically has a much more powerful game than Ruse, but can be erratic at times with
her shots. Those mistakes cost her dearly.
Ruse is running away with the second set now.
Yastremska might not make the U.S. Open cut.

I woke up in the middle of the night after just about 2 hours of sleep... "well, ok, let's see if there's then some interesting match going on in US Open qualies - yay, Yastremska-Ruse right now! "
But has been very disappointing from Dayana. 42 UEs in less than two sets!?? She is giving the main draw spot on a golden plate to Elena. :(

It's over: 7-6, 6-3 for the Romanian.

Miss "Volleynets" and Andreeva the older (already 19! ) are serving me with much better tennis than I saw in the previous match. Katie won the first set 6-1, but Andreeva just kept her serve at 5-4 in a game that went on for very long. If she is about to turn the match, it should happen now.

Seems like Katie is at her best on hard court Grand Slams - remember her excellent performance in the Aussies? - and this even though it seems she's about to lose the 2nd set now...

I might tune in again if I get my nerve up.
I watched a bit of the first set but thought Erika just didn't have the juice or perseverance to pull through with a win.
I've watched Volynets before and know she's a tenacious player. Not so much with Erika.
Erika keeps improving which is good to see, but it's her sister who will undoubtedly have a stellar tennis career.

I hope Erika can turn things around in the 3rd set.

I kept reading the last few days about Venus was supposed to play Badosa on R1, but I see Venus is not listed in the current draw as playing Badosa. The draw hasn't been updated since Badosa is still listed as #2 seed, so I'd expect Venus will be there against Badosa? But Venus is actually a few lines up against Minnen.

If a player pulls out, I thought they only replace that player spot, and not move her opponent around elsewhere in the draw? I must've missed something.

Bianca Andreescu has also withdrawn due to an injury. :(
Her bad luck just keeps continuing.

She was slated to play a tough match against Tsurenko in the first round on Tuesday.

That's obviously a typo, but was Paula originally the 32-seed? that would explain why Venus was moved, all seed lines are filled in a Slam unless it's too late to do so.
It must've been my mistake. I must've read it wrong. Some sites predicting Minnen in 3.

Good God. The new Adidas kit that Muchova and Sakkari are wearing is hideous.
The one with the random blue stripes + the black/white zebra stripes? Don't have the match up but I know the men have a similar kit to that one.

Eh, I pulled up a stream now for Sakkari. It ain't that bad. Better than the zebra stripes for sure. MUCH better than Nike's stuff too (wait until you see it if you haven't already)

2nd edit: LOL, okay so once I saw her get out of her chair, I see she does in fact have the zebra stripes on her skit. Yeaaaah, not great.

Sakkari does literally look like a zebra and unfortunately she's playing like one too.

I saw Masarova here in person last year and couldn't figure out how she was outside the top 100. Eye test wins again. She's so strong, incredible athlete too for her size.
