Now Sabalenka has officially replaced Sharapova as the SCREAM Queen. just not as good looking though

HILARIOUS!!!

Saba is super cute tho and much warmer than Sharaps.-
Sabalenka needs to be fined for those extremely outrageous grunts and screams when striking the ball.
It's clearly unprofessional and an attempt at distracting the opponent.
fat chance tho.

It’s been going on for years.

They should have clamped down with Pova. Now it’s almost normal.

Azarenka had the worst scream of all. Like a cat in a blender shrieking in extreme pain while being torn to pieces.

I'm predicting a Sabalenka win of 6-3 7-6. I think Gauff will do better than in the FO final, but ultimately I think she'll have to wait a bit longer to land the big one.

Sabalenka should feel quite free in this final; she knows she should be out by now, so she could just kid herself into thinking this is a free hit and nothing to lose. Gauff on the other hand will surely feel the pressure of expectation.

I missed the second semi live. Just about to watch the replay now, so I can’t comment on that match.

My question to everyone who saw the second semi: has it changed your view of Sabalenka’s chances in the final?

Prior to the SF stage, I think we would all agree that Sabalenka had been the form player of the tournament. Interested in seeing if anyone’s opinion has changed after watching the SFs.

didnt watch second semifinal but now seein the scoreline its amazing how danko turned this match after 0-6, lets hope final gonna be excellent:giggle:

I am watching Sabalenka vs Keys on replay right now, it's easy to say that Keys blew it but I am quite amazed by how Sabalenka came back into this one : returning extremely well when Keys was serving for the match, playing with depth while not going for too much, forcing Keys to come up with the perfect shot to win the point.

I haven’t hidden the fact that I don’t like Sabalenka, but credit where it’s due, firstly for her consistency and impressive track record in the big events since Cincinnati last year, and secondly for recovering from the 1st set bagel yesterday and her clutch play during the big moments.

That was especially impressive given her ‘mental wobbles’ in previous grand slam semi-finals, against Fernandez and Swiatek during the previous 2 US Opens, and against Muchova and Jabeur at RG and Wimbledon this year.

She’ll be a lot closer when she wins Saturday son.

Hopefully.

Sabalenka had her fans on the collective edges of their seats in this semi, but she pulled ahead with such determination. I hope she's able to shut out the nerves that come with a majors final and get her first USO.

I wonder if still technically being #2 will help her - she's the next #1 regardless but it's not ticked over yet.

Keys serve does not have enough pace for someone with as much power as she has. Hard to believe after years in this game how her serve is so slow.

I think in her head she's already no 1 now.

She'll have a bittersweet Monday morning though if she doesn't win the title. If that happens, it will sort of feel like she's only picking up no 1 to look after it until Gauff takes it.

I'd hope Gauff beats Swiatek a few more times before she takes #1. The benefit of this USO final is both players have played major finals before. Gauff has a lot of home pressure but I think before she won Washington and Cincinnati just looking at her stats you'd think she was a couple of years away from a major title so the fact she's in the USO final is far more surprising than Sabalenka given Sabalenka's actual GS consistency in getting to SFs.

That first semi-final was terrible. I think the level raised in the final few games, but watching Gauff cough up that lead in the first set, and then watching Muchova absolutely blow it so spectacularly after coming all the way back was so sad. Errors at major moments again and again. It's like 85 to 90% of the match had to be on Karolina's racquet, and when she was doing her thing and it was working it was as great to watch as ever, but she gave up way too much between those moments. Coco had good points here and there, but it seems to me that the majority of her performance in the match was defined by her trademark passivity. Bad to see.

The second semi was something. The key to the whole thing being that Keys couldn't sustain her level from the first set in terms of keeping the errors down, and Sabalenka could raise her level when her back was against the wall down a set and break, the first serve percentage went up massively, the winners followed suit, and all the coming forward. UPPING the aggression the deeper into the match things went. Beautiful to watch.

Anyway, the cracks showed for both of them, but Aryna raising her level and taking over the match, playing more aggressively and dictating the play was great to see. It's a total turnaround for Sabalenka going from the brainless ball basher to the girl who is basically the exact opposite... I know who I'd make favourite, but seeing how they both handle the occasion might be the most interesting thing about it.

I dislike Gauff so much that I will skip that match - excited by Keys vs Sabalenka and hoping Muchova wins the first semi! :)
I am with you also with that incident of hitting the umpire's chair with her racquet. Hopefully she was immature as we all were when young(though that is crossing the line for anybody). But she deserves to be in the final. If only Muchova had won the first set, she could have won the match.

What an amazing comeback from Sabalenka. Her pouting and stomping was really getting on my nerves, but she really pulled herself together. Heartbreaking for Madison. She cried and had to leave the press conference. Great class walking around the net to congratulate Sabalenka with a warm hug.

I hope she can win one next year, the window is closing fast for her though.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed to see Keys not win this one. You can say what you want about her, but she certainly has heart and determination. She's definitely not a quitter. That's a good point about her serve though. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten together with some top trainer and really focused on developing a good, solid, killer serve. Geez, has she EVER hit an ace?

She hit 5 aces in this match

I was impressed Keys held on in the third after the breakdown at the end of the second. But the tiebreak was petty bad. Still, I'm proud of her, and big kudos to Sabs who was spraying all over for much of the match and managed to find a way to win with some timely good serving and getting more balls in the court when it mattered most.

^ I just noticed I'm fortunate to be able to listen a bit less desperate commentators! He's better at singing than commenting, but wouldn't leave a da... oh wait. Never mind!

Muchova just got tired at the end and wanted the point to stop so she went for the drop shot... Probably should have hit the drop shot crosscourt though
Yeah. I was actually wondering at an earlier FH down the line by Muchova. It ended up quite far from the sideline, allowing Coco to get it. Is that just bad aim / exhaustion, or is there some tactical reason? I'd think the former, but I've seen enough of such not-quite-DTL shots that I'm beginning to wonder if there's a point to it!

Twice Dabrowski and Routliffe have served for the match. Twice Hsieh and Wang have broken them at love. Into a tiebreaker we go.

Three different players double-faulted three times in a row. Has that ever happened in a pro match before?

Dabrowski and Routliffe win 6-1, 7-6. Hsieh was an astounding 16-0 in doubles grand slam play this year until this match. Hsieh was nearly flawless in the tiebreak, but Wang just made too many mistakes. If Hsieh had Strycova today, they probably would have won.

There was some discussion with gauff on who wore the confetti outfit the best, carlos and tiafoe etc .
Keys carried the dress well.
